Will my measurements go down from weight training?

I new to the idea of maintaining, and I've never really weight-trained before. I have high body-fat and want to lower it.
I'm 19, 5'4, and weigh 110 give or take 2lbs. My waist is 26in and hips 34. I would like to lower those measurements. Will weigh-training help?

  • It might, I have a 26 waist too, but I'm 140-145.

it will if you work hard to build muscle AND if your waist is larger than you want it to be due to fat. 26" isn't an abnormal waist size for someone our height, and i believe that woman's small sized clothes have a waist about that size or just a hint smaller. i used to have to buy kids' clothes when i had a 19 to 20 inch waist as women's small were baggy on me.

You are already at a healthy weight. You cannot spot reduce. If you do not like what you see in the "mirror" It may be because you are "Skinny fat". The only way you'll be able to get tone, lean or a smaller waist is if you start eating at a small surplus & start lifting. When you feel like you put enough muscle than go ahead and do a calorie deficit, for fat loss. I'm 5'4 , 140lbs and I have the same measurements as you. That tells you something.

You are young. Take advantage that you can make the most gains right now. You can easily get lean with the body you have. In order to build muscle you need a calorie surplus. It's the easiest way. Staying at maintenance will take you too long. This is the time you want to gain muscle. When you feel like you gained enough. Go back to a deficit & lose the fat and maintain the muscle.

Yes it will. You may consider a little cardio with the weight training, but you'll want to eat in a way to grow your muscle which will increase your metabolism.
