Frustrated after moving back home!

So this is a little bit of a vent thread as well as a "What do I do!?" thread but anyway, I find myself increasingly frustrated since moving back home. Let me give a little bit of background....I moved back home permanently after living away from home for grad school for 4 years - coming from a background of emotional binge eating, I took matters into my hands Jan 2014 and really changed the way I ate (low carb/high protein) and added in 30 mins of cardio, absolved my addiction to sugar etc

I lived on my own, made my own meals, bought my own groceries and lost 19 pounds by May 2014! (let me also throw in, I'm dually thrilled because I have PCOS). I move back home in June and things were pretty good the first month, I still managed to motivate myself to workout 30 minutes a day, but living in my parents home has made eating healthy a nightmare - for one, my mother grocery shops for my younger brother, who can eat pretty much anything so theres junk galore - not only that, I get a lot of slack for cooking my own dinners (my mother is vegetarian and doesn't like the amount of meat protein I consume).

So now, I have ended up gaining 5 of the 19 pounds I lost - I want to cry. I am thankful to have a place to live while I figure out the rest of my life but I feel constantly bloated, my PCOS is raging and I feel like I've lost the control I had on my lifestyle when I was living alone. I know the best option would be to get my own place and I'm working on some job prospects which won't come through for at least another month or two but I can't let things keep going the way they are or I know I'm going to gain back everything and more!

Any tips would be appreciated, has anyone had to deal with a similar situation before?

  • I would just suggest portion control. I have had to put up with this kind of stuff before and it definitely is difficult. What kind of foods does she buy? Is there a chance you can buy your own food? I'd try to increase your vegetable portions in an effort to decrease the amount of bad food you eat. Can you talk to your mom? There are plenty of healthy protein options for vegetarians so maybe you can work out a deal and she can get healthier food for you. I'd try to ignore the slack honestly. It's your body not hers. I tried being a vegetarian before and it didn't work for me. While I didn't crave the meat, I felt sick. You have to listen to your body.
