Ok, i know the obvious biological answer for this question-- that our body likes extra fat to cushion our organs and such to keep warm during the winter season, but WHY do i have to crave the worse foods to purposly sabotage myself bc of my stupid food cravings. Yeah i know there is the "WillPower factor" and "you can eat bad food but in moderation" that is always being said on this amazing site, but that doesnt stop myself from getting what my body craves, ESPECIALLY during the cold weather making me want only comfort food and not so much with my healthy yogurt, fruits and veggies. in fact when my body is in CRAVE mode, i am repulsed by anything that is healthy for you. WHY IS THAT!? why can't i just follow a simple plan as to 1200 cals a day... I will be good for the first half of the day, then BOOM... Im craving cheesy anything full of carbs and calories becuase my imagination builds up this amazing picture of whatever i crave, whether it's a quick glancing speck of a though to Ohh man i could really go for.... and really go for it. I know it's not easy to be on a diet, but in this case its life style change... and i cant even change my life style bc of my mindset which i constinatly try to fix on a day to day basis. i work at a gym for crying out loud and have no time to work out bc i go to school as well and i can't make everyone happy bc if i go out to exercise, i barely see my boyfriend who i live with and it has been causing light problems becuase i miss him and the only time i can exercise is during ANY study time i have and i need that time to STUDY...Plus i have been hearing tragic news about a few of my friends, one that has passed away and one in the hospital on Life Support. Depressed and feeling like there is nothing i can do to make things different, Im in a bind and i need advice please. I mainly need help with my undesired cravings and changing my mindset to STOP STOP STOP going back to my comfort food zone and tempered food craving (temptered as in ill lose my temper if i hear NO to geting it.... im never like that... ever..) HELP MEEE!

I simply don't eat it. I have a huge list of things that I want to eat and yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the cold. I want stuff like baked potato soup and country fried steak and gravy. Big old plates of carbs and fat. Like every week, I can eat whatever I want on Friday and if big old plate of fat and carbs is what I want on Friday night, that's what I'll eat. More than likely, by then I'll be over my craving. :)

I know you say you don't have time to exercise, but this is one of those instances where, if I were you, I'd really make the time. Personally, I've done my 70lb loss purely by diet, no exercising involved at all, and for me that's been fine.

However, I suffered quite badly with severe depression for years, and still have to fight it off occasionally, and I can't stress to you enough how important exercise is when that blackness descends.

Forget about it from being a weight loss point of view (although we all know it will help), and think about it purely as a medicinal aid to dealing with the stress and low mood it really seems you're suffering with.

Studying is important, but from previous past experience, I studied much more effectively when I'd given myself the time to exercise. I may have had a little less time, but I worked more efficiently, so actually got more knowledge to stay in my head, than trying to study when I was anxious/stressed/distracted.

Forget about worrying about the cravings. Get your mood back on track first. Take baby steps, and stop beating yourself up. You're honestly not alone in this. I'm sure a good proportion of us have been, or are going through, a similar set of emotions.

Stop trying to keep everybody else happy. One of the most important lessons I ever learnt was that sometimes you have to be a little selfish, and that sometimes you have to put yourself first. That's not to become an obnoxious prat, but to look after yourself, and stop putting yourself at the end of the list. Again, if you take the time to look after yourself, you'll find that you can look after everybody else much more effectively.

I appeciate you taking the time to write this helpful message back to me. My time constraints are taking one hell of a toll on my body as is. and i do exercise, just not as often. as for the studying, its the opposite attually, i have a very flip flop schedule and my studying times would be for a couple of hours after work and before school. that's my schedule... it's either im at school, then work, or visa versa. i try to study at work, but its now a busy sale time with it being christmas. i have SAD (Seasonal Affected Disorder) and i always fall into a depression around this time... it's why im so lathargic about all this. i know what needs to be done, i just have no motivation to stick with it even though i want it badly! I dont have alotta money so i cant buy myself tons of healthy snack and foods in bulk..
  • I too suffer from what I call "Hibernation Mode" during the winter. I combat it simply by continuously reminding myself how unhealthy I was and how unhappy I was because of it. I also try to log in here daily to give myself motivation by logging in here. It's not easy but I do it because I don't want to go back to a large stomach and all the other problems that came with the weight...

Maybe, if it was even a vague possibility, see if anybody may be able to get you one of those 'daylight' lamps for Christmas? I've never really suffered with SAD, but one of my friends swears by a daylight lamp. She has it on for an hour or so a day, usually whilst she's reading, and says it has a tremendous effect on her.
