T25, Insanity, and all those other fitness programs (HRM)

Hi,

So I have a heart rate monitor (Polar FT60) and I programmed my goal as "weight loss." Then it tells me I should exercise xxx minutes a week, XX min in Zone 1 and XX min Zone 2 (mostly in Zone 2), ZERO minutes in Zone 3!

I started doing some fitness dvd programs (specifically T25) and find pretty much for the entire 30 min, my heart rate is in Zone 3. At the end, my HRM says "max performance improving" or something like that. Usually when I do Zumba and stay in Zone 2 mostly, it tells me "fat loss improving." For weeks which I have exercised a lot in Zone 3, my HRM keeps reminding me to "exercise much less in Zone 3)

Can anyone shed some light on this? I have heard great success weight loss stories with T25 and Insanity, etc. but is it okay to exercise in Zone 3 for fat loss? does this mean I will bulk up and build muscle? because I would rather lose weight/fat first, then tone up my muscle and whatnot.

I really enjoy Zumba, but I feel like sometimes it isn't enough to quicken fat/weight loss.

I am pretty new to fitness, and even though I've looked through hundreds of articles, I feel like there is a lot of information to take in and I end up getting confused with everything, especially when there is so much controversy over many aspects of fitness lol

Thanks for any advice/help!

From experience with T25, it is not going to make you bulk up. You will shed fat and pounds. I can't speak on the rest of it bc I have a Polar F7, but I know whenever I looked at the date, it normally said I was burning fat for about 3-5 minutes during T25, and the rest was fitness. I don't think it matters. Exercise is really for fitness, and diet is for weight loss. Good luck. I loved T25. It's a great workout program.
