Hi all! I hope I am posting in the right place.
I went on a ketogenic diet last week (Wednesday to be exact, and please keep comments about whether or not it is bad for the body to yourselves, this is an experiment for me). Everything was fine until I came down with the flu Friday morning (real flu, not the so-called "low carb flu"). I wasn't able to eat much over the weekend and took copious amounts of cold medicine to try to get ahead of symptoms as I started my junior year as a math major today. This morning, I woke up with pretty bad nausea (almost like hangover nausea but I am definitely not hungover, no vomiting yet) and was able to just choke down an omelet 3 hours after I woke up and have only been able to eat a couple of ounces of cheese since. The idea of eating pretty much anything upsets my stomach. I had the same symptoms a year ago, but it was due to heavy medication for major depression that I have been off of for at least 8 months. I am currently not on any meds other than birth control (and I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant).
My question for people who have tried a VLC diet is: have you experienced anything like this? If so, what did you do to get past it? Could it be a side-effect from cold meds on an empty stomach? I decided to back off on the diet until it resolves itself to give my body a break.

Pretty sure most people have had the flu.
If as you say this is the real flu then it is a virus based illness and only time is going to get you back to normal.
If it was in fact brought on by your food consumption then you need to figure out what you ate that your body is disagreeing with.
For starters what was were your macro percentages for the week ?0
