Stress

I didn't think this fit in fun and games, I thought it was more of a support topic. Anyways, has anyone else experienced workplace stress, if so, how did you deal with it?

I'm going through a rough time right now with my current employer, (FreshDirect), I get paid a horrible wage for what I have to put up with and there is also no chance of me getting a raise any time soon. The only way to get a raise is to leave FreshDirect and move to a different project within the call center I work up, and no one is hiring. I am not appreciated for the hard work I do put in, for example, not calling in sick , not being late, no mistakes, having good quality in my calls, I have even come in on my days off, and it seems like all I ever get is a thank you, which in the long run does *kitten* all. Anywho, anyone else experience this, and how did you cope?

p.s. I am waiting on two jobs with much higher wages, so I guess I have just had it with how unorganized everything is, and how unappreciated I am.

Happens all the time...With the economy the way it is, sometimes you just have tbe happy with the thank you. I have dealt with that for years but right now especially with the holiday season fast approaching, I am quite honestly just happy to have a job. I have seen too many of my co-workers getting "laid off" over the past month or so. So as long as employment trends are what they are, sometimes it is best to get in shape and flexible and be ready to grab your ankles.

Well, I'm in Canada, we haven't experienced that much of a cut in jobs. lol, and as for my "husband" I'm only 20, we're not married and he's going back to school. Call centers are the easiest place to get a job here, but there is a reason for that, because they have a high turn over rate. I actually am waiting for the news on two hospital jobs, and will indefinitely leave the job I am at for either one.

Oh, honey... I know the feeling all too well...

The economy does suck right now... I do suggest staying at your current job (unless you can afford otherwise) until you have a new job lined up. It took me three years (and that was 10 years ago) to find a good job so I could leave my hellacious employer at the time. It was a rotten three years, but I had a mortgage and no other choice.

So what do you do to make it better in the meantime? Lots of friends in the workplace to vent to and have lunches with... We'd go out for happy hours and movies... Then that made it a little more bearable while at work. The boss still sucked, but the support and friendship among my colleagues helped a great deal.

And then just try little things... redecorating your office space... get new cute post-it notes.... find an uber awesome highlighter to use. I know it's all really silly... but sometimes in these situations, you gotta find whatever you can to put a smile on your face when things are rough.

Hang in there!!! It won't last forever...

However, I do absolutley understand where you are coming from, if I was in the position that if this was the only job that I could have, I would certainly bite my tongue and be grateful for it.

OKAY.. I just want to ensure anyone replying to this post. I AM NOT GOING TO QUIT MY JOB. I am not a moron, lol. I have bills to pay just like everyone else, not to mention that I have a boyfriend that would not be able to pay the bills on his own. I would definitely not leave until I had another job lined up.

I say when you feel like you want to throttle someone go home and take it out on your man! Just kidding.

My doctor gave me some breathing exercises and they do work.

Close your eyes and breath in through your nose for a slow count of 4, breath into your diaphragm - not your lungs -feel your stomach expand. Hold for a slow count of 7. Then exhale through your mouth for a slow count of 8. Don't let your breath whoosh out. At the end of the 8 count I kind of push all the breath out and my shoulders drop. I do a few of these and it makes me feel better.

I've always been a very, very stressful, anxious person. This won't make the job any better but it might help you handle the crap better.

if you live in canada go on wowjobs.com...it's an awesome website that has tons of jobs...that's where i found the one i'm at right now...or try a temp agency, most times you get hired on full time, or they find you another job right away (I've done that as well)...but seriously, get a degree, because that's the only way you're going to secure a job in this day and age.
