Anyone use a Nutritionist???

Does any one use one or think its helpful? My husband keeps telling me it is a good idea, but sometimes when I have gone in the past they are like 20 and it is not helpful..

I am in Vegas if anyone knows of a good one here, let me know, I will try anything that may help move me along..

Thanks!

Some times nutritionist talk out of their *kitten*. I'd watch out and taking everything they said with a pinch of salt.

I went to a Registered Dietician, who I would trust over a "Nutritionist", and she really didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. She DID confirm for me that everything I learned from my self education was correct and that I was on the right path, which made the visit worth it to me. When I first started losing, I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes. My PCP is a certified diabetic educator so she gave me general information as to how to get started as well as resources to learn more for myself.

The only change the dietician made was to switch up one of the things I was eating for lunch and make it part of my afternoon snack instead so I could balance out the carbs over my 5 meals a little better.

ETA: printing out some of the reports generated by MFP and taking them to my appointments really helps. They can see what my total and net calories are plus my carbs and protein. I print those 4 out for the previous 90 days. No, they don't care about sugars even though I am diabetic, only total carbs.

There is a big difference between a registered dietician and a "nutritionist." The former can provide good advice.

But then they'll tell you salt is the devil and must be avoided.

Having seen a bunch of them in the past, I will tell you that most of them (or at least, the 5 I have come across) are completely and utterly on bandwagons for whatever current food fashion is en vogue.

One once told me to cut out all sugar, including fruit. No thanks, you will have to pry my bananas and pineapples and strawberries out of my cold, dead hands.

Another one once told me that the Atkins diet is proven to extend life and I should follow that to the letter.

Mostly, it's common sense. Any of them which extol the virtues of eliminating food groups for no particular reason, just no. Nutrition is not such a fine-tuned science (with the exception of food intolerances/diabetes etc etc).
