Ankle/Foot Injury

I'm not sure what happened, but I ran last Tuesday and did legs.. then sometime Wednesday (not first thing), my foot/ankle started hurting with every step. It was enough to make me have a significant limp because of the pain. I thought it would go away, but it has only gotten worse.
So, now I'm wearing a boot to alleviate the pain a little when I walk. I REALLY want to work out and lose weight. I'm not fat, but I have about 40lbs to lose before I'm where I want to be.
Before, it was easy to go in and get significant cardio in with running, the elliptical and stair stepper. I know that I'll have to bike and use battle ropes for my cardio right now, but I want to know if that will still help lose weight as fast as running. (I also lift 3x+ per week)
For the record, I eat very clean now, so I understand that diet is 80%+ of the weight loss.
Anybody have any other ideas to help? Anybody lose significant amounts of weight on the stationary bike?

Not I. Stationary bikes don't do jack for me. Bore me off my butt. I'd rather do the elliptical.
I do bike when I need to but it's outside. Key to that I think is to bike until your heart rate is same as it is running and then keep it there the same amount of time. So when I run it's usually 3 - 5 miles. When I bike it's closer to 15 - 20 miles - unless I'm biking with my runner son, then it's maybe 10 miles. He runs as fast as my fastest biking pace on my little beach cruiser (I hate road bikes) so believe me, my butt is kicked when we're done. That has kept weight off when I've needed an alternate.0 -
As long as you're in a calorie deficit, you'll lose weight.0

Doesn't anybody around here ever go to the doctor when they are sick or injured?0

I do. But not often. Depends on what sickness/illness I have/might have. Most of the running injuries I wrap, tape, cover, brace, heat, ice, tiger balm, etc. After doing this for years, I've heard the same thing over and over again. "You've strained it. Rest for three weeks and wear this brace (I have a plethora from which to chose now) while you start running again to limit motion. Ice and heat alternately. Ibuprofen." :bigsmile:0 -
Is it low ankle or mostly foot? Might be plantar, if it's not an ankle sprain.
I had to use the recumbent bike after I severely sprained my ankle a few years ago. I combined that with pilates and upper body weights. It worked just fine. It is definitely better than nothing. I also get a workout ball chair and sat on that and did Zumba and the boxing part of kickboxing. I may have looked stupid, but I was moving so I was happy. LOL The trick with the recumbent bike is to be sure to up the resistance, so your heart rate gets up.0
