Wife got swindled a couple weeks ago. Fell for the plight this inner city kid was feeding her and guilt her into buy 2 subscriptions. Turns out the company is bogus, no refunds and I just get an answering machine. I found out the guy who registered the company in my state has been busted in other states for this scam.
Anyone else ever bet hit up by these ghetto scammers? What did you do? Sad thing is the ring leader is really just pimping these inner city kids to make a few bucks.

2 weeks ago, a guy backed his pick up into our driveway and tried to sell us recliners out of the back. Just say no and close the door.0

sorry wookinpanub, but pretty much this.
I'd be annoyed with my mate too though...I don't think it's safe to interact with door to door salespeople in this era, no matter what your neighborhood is like. I think that practice (door to door selling) should be entirely banned, to be honest.0 -
I have a big NO SOLICITING sign on my door. It has stopped, I'd say, about 95% of the door to door sales. The 5% who pretend they didn't see it, I just point it out to them and shut the door.0

That sucks. We've bought them from kids many times and haven't once had an issue. Then again we knew most of the people selling them... LOL0
-
They've been around a LONG time. There are some old article about them floating around.
Terrible scam.0 -

I used to work in door to door sales...not magazines. We were trained that "No Soliciting" signs were put up by husbands who were tired of their wives buying all kinds of stuff. I didn't like that and wouldn't knock on a door with a sign, but somel of the other's still would and still sold to those houses most of the time.0 -
We get them in our neighborhood but I just ignore the doorbell. They must have gotten the hint because they skip our house now.0

It also doesn't stop the Public Interest Research Group people, which is essentially a slave trade. They will tell you they don't have to abide by solicitation laws.0 -

I can see where that would happen. lol
In my case, I work from home, so anyone knocking on the door during the day is bothering me while I'm trying to work. It's very distracting.
Also, I'd say that most of the door to door stuff in my neighborhood isn't so much selling, but it's political campaigning and fund raising, which I hate. I already know who I'm going to vote for, and no amount of fliers or printed material is going to change my mind.
The only clause I have on my sign is for Girl Scout cookies. If you're selling cookies, feel free to knock. Otherwise, go away. lol0 -

What annoys me right now is a local satellite company has been knocking on doors in our complex. The first time, I thought it might be someone I knew and he had woken me up from a nap. I flat-out told him no and he CAME BACK less than a week later. I didn't open the door that time.0 -

That has been our discussion...in this day and age it is highly inappropriate. I have had some knock on my door late in the evening when it is dark.0 -
Credit card thing? Dispute the charge or file a fraud complaint with the card company. Cash? Never use cash.
Wife wrote a check - yikes!0 -

We will probably get one. Also might even get a camera too.0 -

glad i dont have to deal with this crap out in the country. all i get is the occasional Jehovahs witness, which are a bit pesky but theyre nice enough people0 -
definitely this. criminals use the cover of a solicitor often to gain entry to your house
Or as a preliminary visit to see what sort of stuff you've got and whether your house is worth breaking into.0 -
my mother got hit by some a few years ago. They get poor kids to do it or homeless are forced into it one way or another ( according to the local L.E.A ) Thankfully we have some ppl in the know in the family and while they were waiting for my mom to get the money she called the cops. They snagged them before they got out of the neighborthood0
