Help! Morning Exercise = Increase in Appetite!

Does anyone have any tips on how to control this? I've recently gone from going to the gym in the evening (and more often than not, not at all if I had to stay late at work/get the shopping in, etc).

I've been doing morning classes before work and I have really enjoyed it. Not only the energy it gives me for the day but also because by the time I get to work I've forgotten I've been and it's nice knowing I'm done for the day.

However. My appetite has gone crazy, I've been eating more (not necessarily bad foods, just more of it) cos I'm so hungry all the time. I literally just ruin my good work in the morning.

Is there any way this will calm down or am I going to have to resort to the willpower I've never had to stop me eating more? I've already put weight on even though I've been exercising more in the last 3 weeks than I ever have in my life!

Any advice would be appreciated!

I think it'd be worth looking at your food diary? Would you be able to open it so we can look?

I had the same issue last year when I was trying to work out early (6:00 AM), I was very very hungry through the day and gained 5-6 lbs. Since then i have switched to working out at lunch, seems to help a bit. Not sure if its all in my head. My close friend also said that she switched to working out at night because of this...

Pre-log your meals and snacks for the day so you know exactly what you can eat for the day. Personally, I try to make sure that I have a morning snack and an afternoon snack to help curb the cravings.

I find the same thing if I work out in the morning (I usually go in the evening). I also pre-log my food for the day - but I also spread my meals out during the day i.e. breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack etc. When I'm hungry, I have a hot cup of green tea first - usually drinking that distracts me for long enough so that I forget I'm hungry!

Sorry, drinking a cup of tea is probabaly not the kind of advice you want, but for some reason having something hot for me = oh yeah, I have something in my stomach, don't need to eat!

I also work out in the mornings and definitely notice an increase in my hunger. Especially if I run. I find that if I eat a bigger breakfast, I am okay the rest of the day. I also eat a lighter dinner to make up for it.
