Latest diet--according to my sister

So my sister just called and told me they had a representative from a wellness clinic come into talk to them about weight loss at her work.

The plan they were promoting went something like this:
No sugar--the less you eat the less you will want it
Low carbs
Do not cut out/count calories
Do not cut out any fat

Although this is not the approach I take completely I don't think this is new thinking. But then she told me they said NO exercise while you are dieting. Wait to incorporate exercise until you are at your goal weight. WHAT?! Would anyone in the health field ever recommend to not exercise?

They also said the new way of thinking is that fast weight loss is the most sustainable. Again--WHAT?!
I have never known someone to lose weight quickly and keep it off. Maybe you have all brainwashed me with everything in moderation and slow and steady weight loss opinions, but this seems crazy to me. Right?

Hope I can convince my family this is not the new answer to all their weight problems. Wish me luck :)

Yikes really? Sounds like one of those "medically supervised" diet plans. A friend of mine went on it, lost a ton of weight (mostly in the form of cash), then gained every ounce back plus more because she didn't exercise and had no clue how to take care of herself in the real world. This plan sounds similar.

Good luck with convincing her otherwise. I sense some lively debates in your future.

I hate that- there is always a "Thing" involved with those types of diets.

when there is a "thing" involved that needs selling- I'm not interested.

also WTF on no exercise??/ wonder if it's like Alli and causes anal leakage which is why you don't want to be working out!!!

I"m sure this was a drug rep just trying to do their job.

BUT, in every episode of My 600 Life even they tell the patients to work out!!

Sounds like some crazy new fad and the sad part is that someone will be so desperate they will go for it.

Sounds like Herbal Magic. They want you to cut calories like crazy while taking speical "herbal supplements" to lose weight. They say not to exercise because they want you to know the supplements are the reason the diet works. Forget that the calorie plan they put you on is actually less than 1200 per day- you can eat as many veggies as you want and are encouraged to. Its a little like WW in counting carbs, proteins and fats according to units you are allowed per day. Ie. half an english muffin is one carb serving.

Scam alert right there. At first it sounded like Atkins, and I did lose a lot of weight about two years ago on old style, real Atkins (not the frozen meals and shakes and bars they sell under the name Atkins now). But Atkins specifically said exercise was required and the Atkins Diet according to him involved eating real food like meat and veggies, with some berries and such later on during maintenance. If someone is going to do low carb, I'd suggest they save a bunch of effort and money* and just go buy the original Atkins book or get it from the library.

*By save money I don't mean save on groceries, good quality meat is really expensive.

Exactly--like I said, that part is not new and works for some. But the rest of it? A little extreme I'd say.
