Diet whey protein shake for weight loss

Hi there,
I've put on about a stone over the summer and I cannot wait to lose it and a bit more, quite literally. I am moving into my new house on September the 4th and am starting a gym with a personal trainer (I am to go 4/5 times a week).
I have purchase diet whey protein (Matrix is the brand) and it is proven to aid weight loss, with many success stories (used as a meal replacement). It says replace 2/3 meals a day for rapid weight loss and 1/2 for normal weight loss.

Has anyone had an success stories from using diet whey protein as weight loss or anything to warn me about?

Each serving is around 180 calories with 3.2g fat, 14g carb and around 23g protein

I weigh around 170lbs and am looking to get down to about 140lbs..

THANKYOU!!

Potential dangers would be going too low on calories, what is bad for health, or not getting enough nutrients for health.

If you go replace food with it 3 meals a day, one serving, it means you would ate only 540 calories a day (180 x 3), if you ate 3 meals a day like most of the people. Obviously on so low calories you would lose weight but it's unhealthy as hell. So you would need to ate more than 1 serving per meal.

Another thing is that it's just protein. If you would ate only protein from powders, even if you would ate 1200 or more cals worth of it, you would eventually develop nutritional deficiencies. Eating refined protein from only one source is not as good as eating lean protein such as meats.

Also really it's just pointless waste of money. Protein is just milk (or whatever that particular one is made of, beans, rice, eggs, etc) in powder, normal food in powder. Minus the most of good vitamins an nutrients what are lose in a process of making that powder. Plus it's more expensive. You might as well ate lean meat or eggs, dairy, etc and it would be cheaper and healthier for you. And would give you the same results for weight loss than protein powder, assuming that you do not go too high on calories.

I call this idea stupid. Food is the way to go. Juts count calories.

protein shakes don't make you lose weight, its just a lower calorie option to make sure you get enough protein if you just cant bear to get it from real food.

do NOT use as meal replacement, and DEFINITELY DO NOT use to replace multiple meals in a day. (thats what that slim fast garbage told people to do, and its junk) I would use it as a snack, or for after a workout. For example, i will have a real breakfast with eggs/etc, morning snack, then real lunch, workout after work, shake after that, then real dinner.

I'd also recommend O.N. GOLD double chocolate whey, its 120cal 24g prot, low carb low fat and delicious.

Good luck, there are hundreds of posts on here about protein shakes

A protein shake does not replace a meal. It is just protein. You will not be full unless you add something to it. You could consider grinding in oatmeal to get some carbs maybe add in a banana or berries and some fats (like MCT oil or peanut butter).

You need to run deficit calories to lose weight. Are you exercising regularly?

    I doubt the bold comment

Eating only an apple a day is proven to aid weight loss - by just giving you very few calories. It's just part of the marketing BS. you know what aids weightloss - a calorie deficit.
  • Very true! I just find it a bit harder than the average person to lose weight even when I'm exercising like a maniac so anything to help is a bonus haha!
  • Exercise 4/5 times a week doing around 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight training

Your best bet would be to buy a food scale and weigh everything before you eat it, so you can be sure you aren't overestimating your calorie intake.
Protein shakes can be good if you need to get more protein into your diet, but they shouldn't really replace meals. Best of luck :)
