okay so i had two babys back to back, my first in nov 08 and my second in oct 09 and i have lots of strech marks as nice little reminders! but now that i've lost weight (about 45 pounds) my tummy (where most of the strech marks are...but not all) looks terrible!! the strech marks look like they've gotten smaller in width but now are deeper and my skin is really...wrinkley looking. my question is, will this just get better with time or not? should i or do i need to use some kind of cream or what? any advice would be great, thanks.

also, i had some strech marks before i got pregnant due to weight gain and those dont look as bad now that i've lost weight as the pregnancy strech marks do.....if that makes sense.

Hello, I also got pretty bad stretch marks during my pregnancy and they started looking like that when I lost most of my weight (by dieting alone). Then I started actually working out and the skin started tightening up....I do crunches like crazy though. And don't let anyone tell you that lotions or creams get rid of stretchmarks because that is a straight up lie. The most any cream will do for you is lighten the skin and make them less noticeable...but stretchmarks are scars, they don't disappear unfortunately. Some people are more prone to getting them...it all just depends on genetics. The only sure way to not get them is to not gain weight, which is obviously not an option during pregnancy lol. Wear them proudly mama, you earned them!

Vitamin E oil and Shea butter will help soften them so they are less noticeable. They may fade some over time like other scars. I dont know of anything that will completely get rid of them.

I also have horrible stretchmarks. I'm still trying to lose the weight. I seem to be losing everywhere, but my belly. Its like jell-o. and the stretch marks are bad. though I have noticed, lately the pink color is started to fade, and they look more white-pinkish in color. still there, and still the same size scar. not sure how to get rid of them. I have tried creams, and the seem to be just like makeup covering them up. but don't actually make them go away.

I had twins over 3 1/2 years ago. I was in the same boat but mine faded. I didn't use the creams but I never asked for advice. I'd use the cream and hang in there and hope that they fade. Good luck!

You're right, we should wear them proudly we did earn them. However......mine are really bad, not just bad...really bad. I was done having babies 8 years ago. My first pregnancy was the worse for stretch marks, up until 7 months you couldn't even tell I was pregnant (I was overweight then as well and didn't gain much during that pregnancy). It seemed to happen over night, my daughter turned and I popped out. Which had the doctor worried had to go for a bunch of tests, found out that my blood sugar was through the roof. To make a long story short, she was 10lb 8oz.

I do wear them proudly it's just the extra skin that bugs me :grumble: , the only way for me to get rid of it is surgery. lol:wink:

Yes girl, I understand that. I was not overweight before I got pregnant but I am super tall so I didn't show until really late...It was around 7 1/2 months before you could tell I was pregnant and then all of a sudden....KABOOM! I mean, I didn't gain very much weight, only 23lbs but it was almost all at the end. I never actually got any stretch marks until the last two weeks of my pregnancy and now I look like I got attacked by wolverine! I was pretty upset about it too and I actually said something about them at my very last appointment before my son was born and my doctor looked at me and said "you know there are women out there who would do anything to be able to sport those 'stripes of honor'". I have NEVER felt the same way about my stretch marks again...now I just look at them and smile. They are tightening up and getting lighter and that's great, but if they didn't, that would be just fine with me too.

I've never heard of the "stripes of honor" before. That brought tears to my eyes. I think I'll look at them differently now. Thanks.

    Take care :flowerforyou:

So in reading those posts, I wonder if that Mederma stuff would work. someone said something about them being scars.. hmmmm... i'm going to look into what that stuff does.

I call my stretch marks my "mommy badge," in addition to that I have a scar on my leg from an anti-nausea injection i got after my second c-section because I'm allergic to the anti-nausea medicine they shot in me.

I believe that stretch marks are where the collagen in your skin has broken down (think of a run in panty hose) due to the skin not being able to keep up with the weight gain. The only thing that really works to fade them is time- nothing can repair them. Working out can help tone muscles but not skin. And some pregnancies can leave excess adipose tissue (body fat) that is very stubborn and hard to get rid of- so this may be some of the last fat you lose....so we have to be patient to see the final outcome!

(....my plan? lose the DANG weight- get to my goal weight- and if the belly and stretch marks are still there- TUMMY TUCK! :-)...)

Just hang in there with the stretch marks- they get better, less noticeable anyway! :-)

Stripes of honor is a very good way to look at them, thank you for that perspective!

I agree that nothing will make them go away completely because they are scars; however, I have found that Strivectin (I think that is how you spell it  ) really helped mine fade! However I must warn you that depending on your pocketbook it can be expensive! I think I bought my 2 tube set for about $120. But to me it was very worth it.
