I am 5'8 and have a large frame.
My doctor gave me a goal weight of 180 because of these 2 things. She said if I got much smaller that I wouldn't look very healthy. My suggestion would be to do the same. Go to your doc and talk with them0 -
I'm 5'9" and my goal weight is 160 right now.. but when i reach that i wanna be like 140. I just wanna see how my body looks, you know? and it's supposedly still between the healthy weight range for the tall women.
I guess it all has to do with how and where our bodies hold our good fat.. you know
the ones that make the cuves lol

i'm 5'8 and my goal is 160 right now. i've never been below 170 though- i felt pretty healthy/good at 1700
-
5'11" and large frame. My goal is 185 to start. Mainly b/c if I'm in shape at 180-185 it's fairly easy to maintain and I look healthy. If I go much smaller than that and am in good shape I don't have enough body fat to maintain my womanly cycle so that's not healthy. I've only been there once and it's just too much work.
I currently am just over 200 and am sitting at a 19 lb loss. I'm also in better shape than I've been in years.0 -
I am 5'8". My goal weight is 130. I started at 147 and had a flabby tummy. My BMI is 20.2. My healthy range is 18.5-25. I wanted to be less than in the middle of healthy and that's where I am.0

I'm 5'10" and my goal weight's about 180. I have a large frame and am really muscular I want to be toned and healthy with muscles not skinny (which I am when I'm 160-170).0

5'11" and small frame.....I am currently at 162 and just toning. I am trying to lower my body fat %... If I happen to lose a few pounds in the process, then great!0

I'm 5'9 with my heels on! lol someone posted something about finding your right weight. http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
check this site out! I found it pretty helpful! good luck on your weight loss journey!0 -
I'm 5'9" and am medium build. I went from 162 down to 139 this year and at 139 I felt really good. I'd love to get down to 135 so that's my goal in the upcoming year.0

I am 5'9. My goal is 170lbs. The reason behind it has nothing to do with my frame size or anything, it is because I will have lost at that point almost exactly 1/2 of what i was at all my time high of 343lbs...YIKES!! I currently am sitting at about 229lbs hoping to reach my goal by the end of next year (**Fingers Crossed**).0

im 5 10 im going for 180 pounds as my goal weight. Im also looking for support and encouragement0

are you sure your a large frame? Lots of women are confused there, like me for instance. I'm 5'9 but small frame and my target weight is 129-142. but really it depends on which chart your going to look at, you should probably ask your doctor.
Height Small Frame Medium Frame Large Frame
4'10" 102-111 109-121 118-131
4'11" 103-113 111-123 120-134
5'0" 104-115 113-126 122-137
5'1" 106-118 115-129 125-140
5'2" 108-121 118-132 128-143
5'3" 111-124 121-135 131-147
5'4" 114-127 124-138 134-151
5'5" 117-130 127-141 137-155
5'6" 120-133 130-144 140-159
5'7" 123-136 133-147 143-163
5'8" 126-139 136-150 146-167
5'9" 129-142 139-153 149-170
5'10" 132-145 142-156 152-173
5'11" 135-148 145-159 155-176
6'0" 138-151 148-162 158-179
edit: just to note, it took me like 5 minutes to type that and line it up and it doesn't stay lined up when I saved the comments. humph0 -
I love your 1/4 inch - it counts! I'm 5'8" and my goal weight is 140 - I'm at 147 right now. I have a small to medium frame. The doc says I'm good right where I am. I chose the 140 based on different things I've read about the "correct" weight for my height. I've seen everything from 121 to 165, so I just kind of picked in between. I try to work based on how I feel and how my body looks.0

I am 5'9" and with a medium to large build too. My lowest weight was 159lbs. I felt fantastic. Anywhere from 155-165 is my goal weight. Definitely my healthy happy weight. And it is not too hard to maintain...except when you get pregnant :-)
Goodluck!!!0 -
I am 5'9". I was going by the BMI originally, until I realized I didn't think it was really the best way to go about deciding my goal weight. The healthy range was just too broad.
I haven't measured myself for frame size, but I would say I'm either a medium or a slightly large frame. I think I'm about in the middle between them. Anyway. My original goal weight was 160. I am at 165 right now and I feel perfectly comfortable. When I was in high school and in college, I weighed 152. I weighed 152 for like 6 years straight. I know that I would look great at that weight and if I eventually can get to 155, I might do that, but for now, I'm going to aim at 160, and stay there. If I'm already feeling good at 165, then you know I'll be absolutely comfortable at 160. AND I'll have that little 5 lb buffer zone for piece of mind. Also, I know that I was a C cup when I was 152 and right now I get to keep my D cup. There's something to be said about that little extra oomph.0 -
I am 5'8" and about 177, I got down to 160 it was hard to maintain, I think about 165 was great for me.0
-
I'm 5'10" and my (very very) long term goal is 180.0
-
I am 5'8.25" right now I am about 164 I have a medium to large frame and hope to get to 145 and but ultimately to 135. I've been this height since I was 13 and have always been heavy in a not so good way so im not sure what I will look like at 145 but i'm. Pretty sure I wont be so flabby in my stomach and arms my only concern is my broad shoulders when I get to 135.0
-
I am 5" 8 and 1/2, and weigh 135. I recently had my tonsils removed and couldn't eat for a bit and got down to 130. However everyone told me how awful I looked.. My body looked great, however my face was all sunken and hollow. I gladly put the 5 lbs back on and think I look pretty damn good. I read about women who have low body weights where they lose a lot in their faces and it makes them look old and more wrinkled lol... If keeping this extra 5 on make my face full and healthy then 135 it is!0

Very cool website - thanx for the info!0

i am 5'8 1/4" tall and a medium frame. I looked and felt my best at 150lbs. I am 175lbs right now and while i don't look bad with clothes on, i am a little flabby with them off. At 150lb i looked GREAT in clothes and a bikini!
being a soccer player my whole like i have always had muscular thighs and even at 150lbs they did get smaller but they still accounted for a lot of weight.0 -
I'm 5'9" and i guess I'm a medium frame? I have no idea how to judge that.
My original goal was just to hit healthy, then I bumped it to 155, which is the lowest I can ever remember being (sophomore year of high school). I still seem to have a lot around the middle though, which left me wondering if I should endeavor for 145. I've passed my goal now, so I think I might be headed that way.
Judging from all the similar ladies my height though I'm now wondering if I'm not going too far... again.
I'll have to keep up with this one...0 -
This may be a dumb question, but how do you figure out your frame?0

Using this site & entering my height of 69.25 inches gives me this reading:
Medium Frame: 143-157
Large Frame: 153-174
& Because I am right in-between those two this is what I've decided:
the difference between 143 & 174 is 31lbs
I'll divide that by two which is 15.5
Subtract 15.5lbs from 174lbs & my magic number is................158.5
Thanks for your comments everyone...you're all so helpful & lovely!!! I think I'll go for roughly 160 & then just take it a day at a time until I am happy with my weight & confident in my own skin!0 -
I'm ONLY 5'7", but my initial goal weight is 160 and my ultimate goal weight is 150. Years ago (about 8) I lost down to 145 and felt really good, but I was considerably younger. Plus I noticed that as I gained a little of it back, I got lots of compliments on how I looked. As some one who turns 30 within the next couple weeks, I would be completely satisfied to weigh in under 160 (which would put me at a "healthy" BMI, according to MFP). I would say that my frame is probably more than medium, but may not quite be large. I do have exceptionally broad shoulders though, too, which definitely factors into how I look at different weights. I'm also not interested in the maintenance involved with weighing in at less than 150. I want to be healthy and happy, not a model.0

Here is a website that calculates your body frame. : http://www.dietandfitnesstoday.com/bodyFrame.php
This tells you what your idea weight should be including your frame size (it also has another way of measuring...but its probably less accurate) http://www.healthcentral.com/diet-exercise/ideal-body-weight-3146-143.html
I'm 5'9 and have a large frame, so it says my idea weight is from 170 - 187 lbs. Personally, I've weighed 180 before (A long time ago lol), and I still felt chubby. Though a lot of that could have been in my head, I was in high school. haha My goal is 160, which was at the high end of the generic weight range for my height, I just want to see me at that weight, if I think I look to skinny, then maybe I'll let myself have some junk food for a week. LOL0 -
My sister is 5'8" and she is a pretty large build. When she got married 5 years ago she had gotten down to 165. At 165 she was starting to look a little sick. He best weight was around 170, she looked really good there!0

This may be a dumb question, but how do you figure out your frame?
•Wrap your thumb and longest finger on one hand around your other wrist. Be sure to wrap around the smallest part of the wrist.
•If your thumb and finger overlap, then you are small-framed. If they touch, then you are medium framed. If they have a gap, then you are large framed.0 -

Wow I just did this and my thumb and finger overlap .... I always thought I was medium framed, well looking at myself I believe I'm a medium frame. I'm 5'8 and currently weigh 151. I would like to get down to 140ish just to see how it looks on me. I would also like to tone up. I think if I get lower than that then I may look like I'm on drugs and that wouldn't be good.0 -
I'm 5'9" medium frame, currently 165, my ultimate goal is toned. I've been picturing 145 as my ideal but it could be 150 or 140, it'll just depend on how I feel when I get there.0
