Pain when running/walking

Hello.
I have pain in my left groin/hip/lower back area when I run. I am just starting the running, but I have been walking a 3-6 miles a day for about one month (huge hills included). I want to start jogging/running but when I do a sharp pain hits my left leg/hip/groin area (kind of sharp pulling pain) and I have to stop and walk. Is this normal for a beginner? I do have weight to lose as well. Will it go away as I get stronger, and lose weight? I have scoliosis as well, so maybe that could be the problem. It bums me out because I want to run badly!

Thanks you for the help. :)

The first two things that come to my mind are tight muscles and maybe a hip or your back is out of alignment. A visit to a chiropractor might help troubleshoot. I used to get lower back pain a lot and found out I was out of alignment and my quads were really tight causing more strain on my back. The other possibility is you injured a muscle and it just needs time to heal.

You may want to ask your MD about running. The answer will depend on your degree of scoliosis, so people on the list really can't advise you safely. Also ask about deep water fitness. Many gyms and aquatic centers offer it. You get the same great benefits of running without stress on your joints, etc.
