Sugar VS Sodium

Looking for thoughts here. I don't add salt to much of anything, and I know sodium is EVERYWHERE, but as far as my tracking goes, I feel like tracking sugar has to be more important - I swapped them out in my food diary (my eating is horrendous as is lol). I know a lot of sources are pinning sugar as the bad guy now, what with the addictiveness of it and all. I am tracking protein and fat as well still. As far as snacks and whatnot, I'm a salty-snack person instead of sweets anyway, but does anyone else track sugar instead of sodium? I'm wondering if that would be more important. If you do, why? I'm just curious. For myself, I know sodium is everywhere, but I feel sugar is more hidden and more difficult to be aware of in my foods.

Also - sorry if I'm rambling in this message, not feeling too hot tonight but wanting answers :-).

I personally don't track either. I track fat, protein, carbs, fiber, and iron. You could, if you want, track sodium and sugar if you feel that would make you happy

Unless you have a medical condition tracking sugar is pretty pointless. The science behind the 'sugar is the devil' opinion is dodgy at best. Mfp std it's sugar level to low anyway. Personally I don't take much notice is sodium either. The main culprit for high sodium is cured and processed meats and processed tv dinner foods not the salt you'd naturally put in home cooking.

It really depends on your goals. Some people do better with more fats and oils that other people do.

I think it's pointless if you're already watching carbs. I'd suggest watching fiber instead of sugar.

Agree with this. I'm tracking fiber and sodium in addition to the carbs, fat and protein. I'm diabetic and hypertensive but also can't seem to lose weight if I don't get my fiber. The carbs will give you a good indicator if you are in the range for your sugar.
