I am new at this too;
anyway, you don't need to read tons of books, all you need to understand is these basic principles:
1 pound of fat = 3,500 calories
it means that you need to create a calorie deficit of 3,500 over a period of time.
That's what I did and have been losing 1 pound per week (3kgs so far).
I have now plateaud as I was on holiday for a week and wanted to enjoy myself but I didn't put anything on; just the same.
So you need to figure out how many calories you need to consume in order for your body to stay the same; that very much depends on your lifestyle. but, roughly, although I don't know for women but I am sure you can google it, for me it's 1600 calories; that's what my body will use if I do absolutely nothing; my lifestyle is sedentary outside of exercise as I work in front of my computer all day long. so I multiply 1,600 by 1.2 and this gives me 1,820; so basically around 1,850. so, if I don't exercise on any given day, that's how many calories I am entitled but if I do exercise, however many calories I will have burned can be added to this total. But I want to create a calorie deficit of 500calories per day so even if my workout was burning around 500 calories, I would still not to eat more than 1,900 calories; the issue is around the weekends as I don't usually exercise on the weekends and allow myself a pizza for instance; but that's ok as long as I include it somehow in the overall plan of losing a pound each week. it's worked so far but I've just come back from holiday and I didn't want to deprive myself so need to start again now but haven't put anything on anyway, just plateaud.
