Protein before bed?

I've recently read that taking in protein before bed in an important move to build muscle. And since our bodies are going into an 6-8 hour "fast" that it's important to supply it with some protein before bed etc. I've also seen guy do this too, even though we've all heard to not eat before bed a million times. Is this important? I personally don't feel it would be necessary, and that we can get the protein anytime of the day as long as we get it. So is it okay to stop eating at 6 if I've gotten my Macros/Calories for the day? Advice is welcome of course! Thank you!

I believe in steady stream of amino acids so space my protein out into four meals, as I do well on that and can keep my emo eating controlled that way too. I start eating at 6am ish then have something a couple of hours before bed. It's usually in the form of Greek yoghurt with honey. Can't get enough of it.

I get my protein requirements evenly across 6 meals...and the last meal happens to be before bed.

    Your first response nailed it.

Calories in, calories out. Some people even go with an average for the week. The time of day you get those calories is not as vital as making sure you have a balance.

Have protein before bed. Knock yourself out.

It does not matter how you time your meals and macro intake. Timing is a personal preference and you may find certain ways help with satiety, performance, and adherence.

My personal trainer suggested I eat 1/2-1 cup of low fat cottage cheese before bed. It is easily digestible and keeps you form being famished in the AM.

I eat a protein snack right before bed to keep my liver from kicking out too much glucose (T2D).

It's a T2D thing used to help keep 'dawn phenomenon' under control. I find my fasting glucose is much lower when I do that.

I don't see the harm in trying it. Though if not T2D, not sure you'll notice much of a difference.

we've all heard to not eat before bed a million times.

We've also all heard not to go swimming for 30 minutes after eating, that wet weather causes colds, and that we only use 10% of our brain.

Doesn't mean any of it is true though.

When I was on Ideal Protein, they had me eat a protein type drink, pudding, etc. before going to bed. I like to eat my last meal between 6-7 and try not to eat after that unless it is a light snack (almonds).

No eating before bed only applies if you have problem sleeping. IF you don't, then this rule doesn't apply to you. My question to everyone is if not drinking anything after you've eaten this "late night meal" would be a problem. Protein needs more water to process, now you enter into a "fasting" state with no additional food or water, how would this affect things? Any thoughts?

P.S. The same thing applies, if you have problems with sleep, the eating (and drinking) before sleep would be a problem because it may wake you up in the middle of the night.

    Just a thought. Good luck!:drinker:
