What do you do when you are having a bad eating day? Sometimes I just can't stop myself, and if i try I'm stressed out. I will do more exercise tonight but, I wish I could just overcome this overeating habit. Any help or encouraging words?

You're allowed to have 1 cheat day once in a while, but my advice is to always have a water bottle wherever you go. The water will fill you up and most likely, if you just ate and say you feel hungry an hour after, that's really your body saying you're thirsty. Also, I suggest drinking water in between meals. That will help fill you up also. I hope this helps0

Drink water! Logging in here always helps me too. When I see how great my friends are doing it give me lots of motivation to do the same...at the end of the day I want to be able to celebrate triumphs with them! Hence, I have become a MFP addict, so I'm not sure how good that is!
I've also found that drinking a glass of non-fat chocolate milk (low sugar chocolate Quik) helps too. Fills me up and satisfies my "chocolate" craving and is way better than a candy bar. Also, you know what they say, "Milk, it does a body good".

Thanks guys! it's so nice to put it out there and get a response. I haven't been drinking enough water today. As far as letting myself have a cheat day, I will see how I feel tomorrow, if I feel revived I will remember for next time and not stress it. Thank a lot and MERRY CHRISTMAS MFPals.0

It can be difficult, especially with stress involved. I do allow myself a cheat day. Is that right for you or others? I can't answer that. Some can do it and some can't. That aside, when it's not my cheat day and I want to cheat, I take a step back from things, take a deep breath and ask myself which do I want more...my goal or the cheat? If I can't give myself an honest answer and a good one at that, I find something to occupy myself because it's usually boredom.
Also, I've found that if I'm going to slip, I try 2-3 pieces of Werther's Sugar-Free hard candies. The coffee flavored one is my fave. I learned in my Diabetes courses that up to 3 pieces are "free." So, I don't even have to log those.

Most important, try not to think of it as a "cheat". It was choice, and its not a big deal. You can't beat yourself up about it. As long as you get back on track by the next day, you'll do ok. You may not lose as quickly as you want but this all a learning process and the real goal is developing lifelong good habits so that's not going to happen overnight. You will always have times you're not going to make the best choices in the world but the idea is PERSISTANCE, NOT PERFECTION! And btw, I help cut down uncontrolled poor eating days by giving myself permission to eat whatever the heck I want on Fridays. I commit to having a healthy breakfast, getting my workout in and then for that one a day a week, I just don't worry about it. I've been on an IHOP kick and that's where we're going tomorrow. And I've been craving Reese's - so I'm going to have one (and if my husband is lucky he can have the 2nd one in the pkg, but if not oh well!). I know a lot of people would not agree with this strategy, but it works for me. So you have to figure out what works for you.
Good luck and hang in there!0 -
I try to be proactive, so that I don't cheat.
I eat more foods with protein or protein shakes so that I won't be hungry.
I turn to cinnamon capsules to curb sugar/sweets cravings.
I exercise in the morning, to start my day on the right foot.
Don't berate yourself or put yourself down. At the best available moment, take a U-turn and do better next time (got this from Dr. Oz).0 -
I do find if I start the day good-I am good throughout. The days I wake up and work out are my best food days by far.0

I am a stess eater. I am trying really hard to let things go and not stress out. I am trying to find other ways to deal with stress rather than food.0
