Olive Oil makes me sad...

Okay, so I love olive oil... and I use a lot of it during the week (my husband is Italian). We even make our own yummy, yummy balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing. Plus, we use it to make chicken and some veggies, etc. I've always heard that it is healthy to eat olive oil so for that reason I've never thought much about using it. :ohwell:
Okay, so my first few weeks (until this last one) I wasn't logging my olive oil intake on my "meals"... well, well, well!!! To my discovery, olive oil is pretty high in calories!!! :noway: The fat I am not worried about... but I am in a delima... should I cut my olive oil use  or stick to what I've been doing???
Any other olive oil lovers out there??? :smooched: :smooched:

I love olive oil! And I would definitely say don't cut it completely out of your diet... maybe just cut it down to a little bit a day. I found this website that states some health benefits of olive oil. Check it out. Also, I just googled "benefits of Olive Oil", so try that and then maybe you can decide better. :flowerforyou:

I use it almost every day, too... usually for cooking meats or veggies. I usually just use no more than 1/2 Tbsp. for cooking, and it doesn't mess with my calories too much. If you are generally close to your recommended intake for fat each day, then I wouldn't worry about it. Your body needs a certain amount of fat anyway, and it helps you feel fuller for longer to have some fat with each meal. If it makes you go over your recommended calories, maybe there are some other things you could cut out instead. Hope this helps! :happy:0

Make room in your cals for your olive oil, it's worth doing an extra 5 minutes of intense jumping jacks or cutting down on something else0

I absolutely LOVE olive oil as well. Whenever I make pasta I usually use 2 tbsp. of olive oil and minced garlic instead of tomato sauce. I also cook my veggies in the stuff. I try to limit my intake to 3 tbsp a day at max though because of the high fat content....it is a very good fat though so don't feel horrible about it.0

Thanks for the advise. I will take all things into consideration. Maybe I can sacrifice somehwere else. I love the benefits of eating olive oil.
Yeah, I don't think I can give up my olive oil... the biggy is my dressing, but I can hardly enjoy a salad without it! Okay, I am being a little dramatic but I do love our homemade dressing!!! It's SO YUMMY!0 -
I wouldnt worry. try using a little less, and use only extra virgin if not for any other reason than a little tastes so goooooooooooood!!!0
-
Maybe try putting it in one of those sprayers so you don't use quite so much.0

I use olive oil on my toast in the morning. I do count it, but I really think the use of it is helping me to lose weight.0

I love olive oil also. I cook with it alot. I use it for everything. Even in a nice hot bath. Great for your skin.0

I love olive oil - and it really is good for you - I'd keep using it, just account for it.0 -
Olive oil, like fish oil, is the good fat. Embrace it, and don't let the high fat count bother you. The Omega 3s are counterintuitively excellent in bringing down your bad cholesterol, raising your good cholesterol, and generally bringing down your triglyceride levels. It's also good for blood pressure.0

love my EVOO!!! Being Italian too I use it for everything...salads, sauteing, frying my chicken cutlets....FOR MY SON...lol I've given up those for now lol...but I too have started to use the sprayer for my EVOO and its amazing!
best of luck and I agree moderation is key to being happy and well fed!
I have just started to add flaxseed oil to my salad dressings too...1/2 the olive oil and 1/2 the flax instead of all olive oil...and its got this yummy nutty flavor!! so double points! lol...plus great omega for you!
hugs!

Yeah, the fat doesn't bother me at all... since it's healthy fat. Plus, I am always low on the fat side.
Maybe I will think about mixing with an oil that is a little lower in cals.
THANKS EVERYONE!!! :flowerforyou:0 -
I use olive oil all the time, I did find a fat free spray of olive oil and I use that sometimes, when I can't afford the calories. It's fantastic.0

I'm a huge olive oil lover and I use it for all my cooking (Italian over here)
I'd say just stick to it. I've lost 11 lbs in 3 weeks and I haven't cut out my oil at all!!!

I love EVOO :laugh:0

It is high in omega 3 fatty acid so it is actually a good fat. ofcourse you should limit the same way you do with everything go ahead and eat it it's very good for you0

I always rub a very thin layer of organic EVOO into the pan when I pan-fry meat, eggs or vegetables. It's very healthy - especially compared with the alternatives! - and it tastes amazingly green and fruity.
Note: olive oil does contain healthy unsaturated fats; however, it does not contain Omega-3 fat unless it is added artificially. ACCESSIBLE omega-3 acid is found in salmon and products of animals on a flax diet (i.e. omega-3 eggs from flax-fed chickens). It's unclear whether we can use any omega-3 acids we consume or produce as a by-product of eating flax ourselves.0 -
I make a dressing using equal parts of white balsamic vinegar and honey. This dressing on Baby Spring greens is terrific. I too love olive oil but I use just enough to keep my total daily fat at 54 grams. A tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil has 14 grams of fat.0
