Lot's to lose, everything to gain.

New here and really loving it so far. I have Graves Disease and recently had a total thyroidectomy this past June. Trying to get life back in order and ran across MFP. Due to a medication allergy, the 6 months prior to surgery were filled with steroid bursts, one medication to treat the side effects of another and so on and I ended up packing on 60 lbs of weight. Still fine tuning the Levo dose, as the doc knows I've been hitting the gym and working a calorie deficit so it's pretty low in anticipation of weight loss, but it seems to make losing weight harder lol.

I was old school cardio bunny and was brainwashed into the women use the pink weights if any at all and don't go in the free weights sections or you'd bulk up (I'm 46). I know better now, after lots of reading here and other places. It's the working up the courage to go in the free weights part of the gym and start lifting that's my hang up. I've never been as heavy as I am now and I feel like I don't belong over there. The treadmill is just not where I want to spend my gym time though and after reading so many stories here about women who lift heavy and seeing the results, I'm excited yet keep finding myself on the treadmill rather than back at the free weights.
