I've been trying to get back into shape . I at 450# and it's my heaviest ever . I carry 275# well and am healthy at that weight .
I've ben dieting but really don't know if I'm loosing because my scale will not weigh over 350# . Looking at me and the way I feel , there seems no difference .
I started walking just this week . I walked less than a mile when my hips started hurting . I struggled thru the rest of the mile and will keep on walking thru the pain . I've never hurt like that before .
Is it the 450# catching up to me ? Have any of you been there before ?
I love to hike and before my 10 year hiatus from the outdoors backpacked and canoed extensively . My goal is to get in shape and hike the Appalachian Trail . I'm hoping ay 64 years old I'll reach that goal .

Realize that you are going to have pain because your body has to get used to exercise again. Be sure you have been medically checked out to be sure it's not some medical condition like arthritis. Our joints are easily irritated when we go from being sedentary to active. But thing I can advise you is to not push thru the pain, you will not help yourself by doing this , it will only lead to injury. Take it slow and easy, build up the ability to go farther and longer. If you can only go one lap around a track before pain starts then just go one lap until you can go further without so much pain. I am speaking from experience, knee surgeries/chronic back problems. ..When I started back exercising EVERYTHING hurt. But I knew it was going to take time, patience, and self care to keep going. You have to have realistic expectations, when I first started I could barely go half a mile, but I did not push myself thru pain. I listened to my body, did not work out every day so my body would have a chance to recover, used ice, heat, took hot baths with Epsom salt, stayed consistent, and built up strength and was able to add more and more to my workouts. I knew that if I 'pushed' thru the pain it would only lead to more injury and I would just stop all together. This is not a race or a lose weight quick scheme. I want to develop life long healthy eating and physical exercise with the goal of losing and maintaining weight as I live my life normally. Don't hurt yourself, take it slow but don't stop, you can get stronger and faster you just have to have patience.0

That's probably a contributing factor.
Working though joint pain can lead to injuries - I wouldn't do it.0
