Worried my daily calorie intake is set to high?

29 yrs old 5'7, started at 150 4 weeks ago, down to 146.2 which stayed about the same for the whole week. Profile set to active, I am on my feet all day long. Just started using MFP 10 days ago. I have been doing 20 minutes of interval elliptical training followed by some strength training just about every day. I log the elliptical calories at about 145 and only count those not the strength training calories as I am not sure what they would be.

I find myself having 900 or so calories left going into dinner time, which I find myself drinking a beer or having a 120-150 calorie desert. Sometimes I have 300 or so calories left over that I do not use.

My profile is set to 1770 calories, 221 carbs (which I never come close to maybe 30-60 left), 59 fat (which I come close to), 89 protein (Which I come close to). I feel good throughout the day, never hungry, and have energy more than I did before.

I just want to make sure I am not eating too much and also eating the correct things. I know I will be gaining muscle with working out, so I am not too worried about the weight loss numbers I just want to look better and be stronger. If you want to check out my diary and let me know what your thoughts are it would be appreciated.

The 1770 does not sound unreasonable.

I am 39 years old, 5'5.5", 135ish, and eat between 1600-1800 these days for a .5 pounds per week loss goal. I'd claim lightly active as I have a desk job but make an effort to get in activity throughout the day. Plus cardio... You're younger and more active - so that's why I found your goal to be reasonable.

If you're using a lot of fat free substitutes, cut back on them somewhat. And make an effort to get more protein. Slightly larger portions of lean meat at your meals, snacks of cheese & nuts, fruit are good ways to get in calories and also other useful nutrients.
