Do you use MFP's macro ratio or create your own?

I've noticed that when it comes to macros...there are so many ratios to experiment with. I see that alot of people customize their macro splits where some simply use the split that MFP creates for you. With that being said, what are some of you guys/gals macros splits? how much of each macro do you take in, and what do you truly feel is the most critical and why?

I use my own. I base my protein on 1 gram per pound of lean bodyweight. That usually comes out to around 25%. Then I put fat at 30% and carbs at 45%. The only one I really try to hit is protein, for the sake of maintaining muscle. Fat falls wherever and then I am usually under on carbs. I ate low-ish carbs for quite a while because of having no self control with bread and baked goods plus a family history of T2 diabetes. But now I am easing back into them, in part because I need them to fuel workouts.0

A lot of people on here change their macros to 40c-30f-30p or 45c-30f-25p. It really depends on your health and fitness goals. MFP does tend to set protein goals a little bit low.0

I think experimentation, research and personal preference play in a lot. I, personally, set mine to 65/25f/10p. I'm never hungry between meals, I'm energetic, I've lost weight, (my muscles are NOT withering away as we speak), and I love my diet. A lot of people have concerns my protein is too low, or my carbs are too high (even though they are 100% complex carbs).
That's them. My macros are mine. They work for me. Your macros should work for you.
Read around, research, Google. Experiment. See what works for you and makes you feel like you're at your best.0 -
Super agree with Bethany!
I've been on both sides. When I first joined MFP way back, I went with default as all I was really paying attention to was calories. I've since personalized my ratio to 80/10/10 carbs/proteins/lipids. This is my happy place; I find I feel and look the best at this ratio. Y'know, weight, athletic performance, skin complexion, clarity of eyes, etc. However, I've guinea-pigged myself in so many nutrition experiments to get to this point it makes quite the story!
I love that MFP lets you set macros to whatever you want. We're the most diverse species on the planet. It wouldn't make sense that the same ratio would work best for all of us. It can be a painful process, but looking back, I have no regrets.
I'd encourage anyone to research and experiment. Don't be afraid to go against anything you research if it doesn't work out. Perfect what works best for you!0 -

I set my own. I use this keto calculator:

I'm on 30C/30P/40F, much like the people in this study who had success: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2014/09/01/344315405/cutting-back-on-carbs-not-fat-may-lead-to-more-weight-loss0
