Is the sugar goal in MFP for all sugar or just added sugar? I'm asking because after eating a banana or apple or any fruit, I'm way over my goal.

My advice would be to completely ignore the sugar goal. I think its wayyy too unrealistic and it doesn't differentiate between added sugars and natural sugars. If you want to make the sugar goal your "added sugar" goal, that's something you could use it for. Otherwise, completely ignore it.

Sugar is sugar, regardless of where you get it from. At least when it comes packaged in a fruit, you are getting other vital nutrients with it, whereas in a chocolate bar you're getting nothing of any real nutritional value.
  • Chocolate has nutritional value

I'm agreeing with both, kinda. Sugar is a hard thing to control to begin with. Natural is way better than added. I love bananas, apples, pineapple and a few others. Just do your best to try to keep it under control. I would not ignore it completely.
  • Thanks for your input everyone!

the category represents the cumulative sugar intake daily...

to be honest, it really depends on where the sugar comes from...

natural sugars are not as bad for you as refined, processed sugars

that being said, it is possible to gain weight due to the sugar intake if you eat, say... a dozen apples a day

but you will not gain and maintain the weight as rapidly if you eat, say... a dozen donuts a day

the nutrients/vitamins in the apple help process, use, and expel the sugars in an apple efficiently

eating a donut, on the other hand, is an invitation for sugar storage unless it is offset by exercise

    hope that helps
