I read the post on apple cider vinegar and found it very interesting. I 'm going to try it. This morning I had a tablespoon of ACV with breakfast. I mixed it with some water, surprisingly it wasn't half bad. I used Heinz because it was all that I had in the pantry.

I decided to go to the store to buy the organic vinegar. (Organic is supposed to be better for you.) They didn't have it at HEB or Walmart. I found it at The Vitamin Shoppe. They had a few different brands, I chose BRAGG Unfiltered. (It was 3 dollars.) I'm excited to see if this helps me. I'll keep ya'll posted on the results.

I just started 3 days ago, don't know that I've gotten any results from it yet, but I'll keep you posted. I got the Bragg at Whole Foods, it's the only place that I've found it, I put a little organic honey in it to cut down the acid taste. I had a hard time getting it down at first, but it was OK this morning. :drinker:
  • Thanks for the tip. I'll look for the organic apple cider vinegar. Do you detect any difference in taste? I have been drinking one tsp. of acv in about 2 cups of water a day. There had seemed to be some confusion about tsp. vs tbsp. in the initial discussion about drinking it. Do you think I should be drinking a tablespoon of acv?

I've read alot of different articles which all state different amounts. The going trend seems to be 1-3 Teaspoons before each meal. (Remember 1 tablespoon equals 3 teaspoons.) I've been mixing with club soda. The taste of the regular is the same as the organic. I use various straight vinegars as salad dressing, so maybe I'm used to it.

I'm going to take 1 Tablespoon twice daily. I hope this is right. If anyone knows for sure or has advice, I'm all ears.

My natuopathic doctor put me on "Betaine" (you can get it at Whole Foods, or at your local health food store). The principal is much like Apple Cider vinegar, except this is apparently better for the stomach, and doesn't have the fermentation that ACV has (which can cause bloating and discomfort for some people).

The idea behind taking the Betaine before meals is that it aids in digestion, by naturally increasing your stomach acid, so that your food digests more effiiciently, and without any bloating or discomfort.
You start out taking 3 before each meal, then a month or so in, you decrease to two, depending on how you feel, and eventually you wean yourself off. The cool part is that the Betaine trains your stomach to make more acid! So you are not dependent on these forever. My doctor did say that she keeps a few in her purse, and if she goes out to eat, or goes out for drinks, she takes a few to help with the digestion.

If I ate certain veggies (cabbage, garlic) or a bad meal (e.g. pizza) I would get really bloated in the upper abdomen. The way to tell is you are someone who could benefit from the acid boost is if you are someone who gets bloated in the upper stomach (above the belly button) vs the lower abdomen (below the belly button).

This supplement has been a huge factor in my diet and in comfort after eating (and the fact that you have to take 3 of these pills with 10 oz of water before eating helps to make you feel full, therefore eating less at meals!).

    Just my 2 cents...
