How long before finding out if a calorie amount is "right"?

I've switched from IF (5:2 to be precise) to a fixed reduction in calories. This is so I can test if this way of eating suits me over IF.

About how long is it before I know if this way of eating works for me? I'm thinking 2 weeks but it might be 4 weeks or it might be longer.

I know everyone's different but I don't really have an idea to work from. Let's assume I'm weighing everything as best as I can for however long a period it takes!

(For reference, I was averaging about 1600kcals a day using IF; my BMR is just under 1800kcals so I upped my calories to that as, at goal weight, it will be only slightly below my maintenance level)

In my opinion, the best way to see accurate weight loss/gain is by looking at a trend every 4 weeks or so.

Thank you Branstin :) I expected to have an idea of if it worked after 3 weeks but I'll keep plugging along for a bit longer! As long as I'm not gaining 2 weeks in a row, it shouldn't wind me up too much
