Snow shoes anyone?

Hey can anyone recommend some snowshoes that are good for running? I'm going to be in a snowshoe race next month (never snowshoed ever). I know there are 3 different types of snowshoes. It seems to me most brand name running snowshoes are $200+. I've also seen super cheap ones on ebay for $40. anyone have experience in either of these, advice, tips? thanks
