I hate to be a debbie downer but Tilapia is probably one of the most toxic fish you could eat. Check out this article..http://draxe.com/eating-tilapia-is-worse-than-eating-bacon/
Again, I'm sorry for being a downer but knowledge will set you free.

1. Take tilapia out of fridge.
2. Drop tilapia in garbage can.
3. Go to store and buy salmon, trout, tuna, grouper, mahi mahi, cod, or other fish that doesn't taste like muddy water.
4. Don't forget the wine.
5. If you have to eat tilapia then use a sauce like puttanesca that covers the bad taste.0 -

People should be forced to earn a license before using the word toxic...0 -
black bass, crappie, walleye, yellow perch, and sunfish are better, but tilapia is about as good as it gets in a commercially available freshwater fish.0

When I made this I only had half the amount of Mrs. Dash so I substituted Greek Seasoning and garlic pepper to make 3 Tbsp. It was delicious!
Tilapia and Spinach
Serves: 2
2 - 4 oz tilapia fillets
2 tsp olive oil
10 oz frozen spinach
3 Tbsp Garlic and Herb Mrs. Dash
1 Tbsp pine nuts
2 Tbsp parmesan cheese, shredded
Prepare spinach according to directions. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Mean while season fish with 1-1/2 Tbsp of Garlic and Herb Mrs. Dash. Fry in pan 2 minutes a side until fish flakes with a fork. Add remaining seasoning, pine nuts and parmesan to spinach. Serve fish over spinach.
This recipe was just published in Taste of Home magazine as Tomato - Artichoke Tilapia.
Mediterranean Tilapia
1 Tbsp olive oil
2 Tilapia filets [or any fish you like]
1 can roasted garlic and onion diced tomatoes, drain off some of the liquid
1 can artichokes, quartered and drained
2 Tbsp capers
Heat non-stick pan on stove; add small amount of olive oil, add tomatoes, artichokes and capers. Simmer 5 minutes at medium heat. Move sauce to the side and slide fish filets into pan. Top filets with sauce and cover. Simmer 15 minutes until fish flakes. Serve with seasoned rice or couscous.0 -

I agree with you, always cringe when I see people buying it or saying how nice it is.0 -

Never heard of Dr. Axe before this thread and probably don't care to ever again. I perused his site and it was full of "debby downer" stuff. If it was up to him we would be paying $20/lb for fish. Because that is what would happen if we didn't have farm raised fish. There is nothing wrong with farm raised tilapia. Yes, there is better tasting fish but you pay for it too. Anytime you throw in that it is fresh caught and not farm raised the price almost doubles, as it should because it isn't cheap to catch.0 -

Not sure where you're getting your tilapia, but I've never had any that tasted like muddy water. Most of the time it tastes like nothing, or whatever I cook it with. It's not as good as salmon, trout, mahi mahi of course, but at $3-$4 per pound at my neighborhood mexican grocery store, it's hard to argue against. At the chain store down the street it costs twice as much though, and at that price I'd never bother with it.0
