Just got caramels and cookies in the mail

Last week my mother-in-law sent us a big package of cookies and caramels. But luckily, she packaged all the nut-free ones for me with the ones full of nuts, and I'm allergic. I'm super sensitive, so just having them touch means I can't eat them. So I wasn't tempted at all!

Then today this new package comes from her. I thought that was weird, we open it up and it's full of caramels and nut free cookies made just for me! I asked my husband and he said he told her I didn't eat the last ones, so she took that as needing to make me more! Ugh. I got mad at him for even saying anything to her, and that I'm trying to lose weight. I feel so bad that she went to the trouble of it all just for me, and now I have them tempting me! I'll make him eat some, but there are tons! I'd like to indulge in just one, but I don't know how many calories each would have.

What would you do?

I'd try one and then take them to work and share with everyone else! :)

I'd ask her for the recipe so I could plug it into the recipe calculator, and enjoy in moderation! There's nothing wrong with having a cookie or a piece of candy, just so long as you're still eating other nutritious food and staying within your calorie goals.

Eat one or two and then freeze them or give them away if you can't even have them in the freezer. I did better at resisting last year than this:( but at last I'm pretty much where I want to be weight wise and will Zumba 4 times this week to work some of the holiday treats off:)

Appreciate, sample, and most of all--share! It's GOOD to enjoy all good things in moderation...or you'll go crazy.

try one and tell her they were great and then bring the rest to work or a holiday gathering as your contribution...

Concur. Enjoy the sweets of the season, just don't get carried away. Be happy they (your husband and his mother) thought to make an exception for you. Enjoy a few, share or freeze the rest.

I agree with freezing them. Then you can have a treat at the times you need it the most..............and take out one or two at a time.
  • how sweet of her!

I am with the other posters. I have spent the last year resisting a LOT. This year I am just going to enjoy the treats without going overboard and then go back to resisting next week. Have a few... enjoy the fact that she thinks enough of you to make them special for you... and share your good fortune with others.
