Has anyone bought a drink for someone when there was no intentions? Not talking family or friends.
Being out and approach someone new to buy them a drink just because?

Sure.
A couple of years ago, we were in Puerto Vallarta having dinner.
A couple came in. They had just married earlier in the day. I paid for their dinner and drinks.0 -
My husband does it a lot when we're out.0

You're a good man. Maybe your intention was so they have a good night which is ok. LOL0 -

Guys do it sometimes to be flashy. Women don't. Women are cheap and don't buy drinks.
A little harsh.
When the guys I ride with go out, somebody will pick up the tab. The next time someone else will. Nobody keeps track. It all works out.
With women, the bill shows up and they all start calculating their portion.
I don't know which is smarter.0 -

I can tell when he is just joking I think.
See that how I am with my friends except we take turns on rounds usually. My family does the calculating there own portions. (My brother and cousins)0 -

That's what we do when we go out in a group. It really DOES all work out in the end.
I can't stand it when I go out in a group and people start tabulating what they had down to the exact penny. Double when they request separate checks. The only time we will "calculate" anything is if we go out and we've had more drinks than whoever it is we're with. Not fair to stick them with our drink tab when they only had one or none.0 -

I'd say most guys bar tabs are pretty low. Guys can get buy drinking $2 beers all night. Women are usually going for the $15 martini type drinks.
Not my bar tab. It used to be 60-80 on alcohol alone for me not including what I buy for others.0 -

You may have a good point there. Women are usually drinking some foo-foo drink with 5 ingredients, a couple pieces of fruit and an umbrella. Most men are drinking beer or, in my case, I prefer cocktails with 2 ingredients. One of the ingredients is Boubon and the other is ice.0 -

$2 beer? Not sure where you're drinking but the crap beer like Bud Light at one of the local places I go to runs $4 a bottle. You must be drinking some seriously awful stuff.
ETA: And I usually stick to wine. If I have a martini it's either a non sweet cosmo or an extra dirty martini. And again, the most expensive "froo froo" martini at my local place is $12. I tend to stay away from the fruity drinks because they can never make them the way I want which is NOT sweet.0 -

Might be a location thing? Beer is pretty cheap here in NC. Miller and Bud are about $3, $3.75 in a restaurant. Pabst is always super cheap (thanks hipsters for bringing it back!).

My most expensive drink was double shot straight of hennessy. 30 dollars in DC bar crazy spots. Since we are talking about buying drinks. I was dancing with the one chick. She stopped and said since I let you dance with me can you buy me a drink.0 -

Yeah that's the mentality that kept me from going after girls at bars. A woman who requires something in exchange for her time, there's a word for that isn't there?
See I was not quick back then to think of a comeback so I just laughed at her and walk away and it became another funny memory I have experience. I have actually had more girls buy me drinks in the past 2 years than the 3 years before that. I wonder why?0 -
I do. It's called karma/being a good person.0

I bought a guy a beer once because I bet him a drink he couldn't do a backflip. Then he did a backflip. It was a good day0

I'm an Army Veteran (Desert Storm & Granada), so if I'm out at a bar/restaurant and see someone in uniform I will usually (anonymously) pay their tab when I leave.0

Nope. But I don't go out, so it would be kinda awkward to randomly buy someone at the grocery store a bottle of wine.0

My husband and I have bought drinks for strangers when on our anniversary or a dinner date a couple of times or offered to share our champagne. We have received the generosity of others on occasion, as well. It is always nice to spread the love!0

Ahh, yes. You are right. They are cheaper there. I forgot about those places.0 -
No it wouldn't, and I volunteer as tribute.
I buy drinks for my friends, male and female. I don't buy drinks for strangers. My husband is military, if I bought a drink for every service member I'd be broke.
I have bought coffee for a platoon coming back from Iraq who was on a lay over with me. Well, I tried.... Cinnabon decided to put the rest "on the house" after I bought 10 and came back for more.Nope. But I don't go out, so it would be kinda awkward to randomly buy someone at the grocery store a bottle of wine.0 -

Deal! If I see you in the grocery store, I'll buy you a bottle. :drinker:0
