You do it beforehand or as you're eating/preparing food. Otherwise you won't know how many calories you've been consuming....

I know that :P, what I mean, when do you start fresh for the next day? for example i count my calories from 12am-12am, and i'm wondering if some count it from when they wake up till they go to bed.

I use an activity tracker. It tracks whatever happens when I move - more activity, more tracking. I just leave it on (it's a bracelent) all the time except when I charge it.

    It depends.

If I know I will be having a heavy calorie day I pre-log the main heavy basics to figure out what to fill the rest of the day with.

If I'm doing IF I pre-log my fast day meal to make sure I don't go over a certain limit. On feast days I write down my food on paper on then log it all in the evening.

On normal days I just log as I go, whatever I happen to grab I log right away.

I have my "meals" set to times rather than actual meals. I do a 24 hour log: 6:00 am to 10:00 am being my first "meal", and 10:00 pm to 6:00 am next morning being my last "meal". This helps account for random snacking and late night outings.

From time I wake up, till the time I go to bed. First thing I do in the morning is log everything I plan to eat that day, and stick to it. That way I pretty much never go over my calories.

I count from when I wake up till I go to bed. I work nights, so I usually sleep late and eat late. I wish there was some way to alter what time the day changes in my food diary. Every now and then, though, I "borrow" from the next day if I want to cheat a little I guess.

Yeah same here, I work nights M-F, I count my calories from 12am - 12am. I'm usually around 500 calories short.
