Quick question about walking

Okay, this may seem like a strange question but I figured I would ask it anyway. Hopefully this is the right place. I started back on MFP about a month ago and starting exercising a week after I started. My exercise is basically walking between 3.5 and 4.5 miles about 5 days a week(as well as what I walk at work. I'm a food server so that can be a lot on certain days.) I saw on MFP when I put it in, it has a separate listing for uphill, which I know takes more work. But what I was wondering is, if there is a difference in calories used when you walk on the beach as opposed to using a treadmill or just walking around the neighborhood(which is what I usually do.) I go to the beach at least once a week and I walk a lot along the water's edge. Granted now that its September, I only have two or three more visits to the shore before it gets to chilly, but I was just curious. Thanks for any help.

Sorry if none of that made any sense. *G*

I don't know about the treadmill v. sidewalk. Personally if I "walk" on a treadmill I am bored out of my mind and if I do more than walking outside my allergies flare up so bad I can't breathe. But the sand thing I can comment on. Walking on loose sand is much harder than walking on hard wet sand or a sidewalk and will burn a lot more calories if you are putting in the same distance/trying to walk at the same pace you do on wet sand. Lucky you to have that option though =)
