No appetite

So I have noticed that on the days I don't exercise I have little to no appetite. Its already after 11 am here, been up since 7 but I'm still not hungry. Am I the only one?

Nope, I am ravenous after a good lifting session. My body needs fuel to operate at peak efficiency.

    Really?
  • I have to force myself to eat in the mornings. I find I just don't wake up hungry. However, I know that my body needs to eat and that my metabolism will work better if I stay on track with 5 or 6 small meals a day. I am still trying out different breakfast ideas to see what works for me. If anyone has any great suggestions I love to try new things.

Now that I'm in the habit of eating in the morning I usually am hungry then, but it's quite possible for me to screw around on a weekend morning from 6 am or so until 11 and not think about eating. I try to go running before then, though (ideally very soon after I get up), since I like to run before I eat (beyond maybe a protein shake or piece of fruit) and it gets harder to do that when I've been up longer, so I end up having to have breakfast and then wait a bit.

I don't generally eat based on hunger, though. I eat on a schedule (kind of boring one--breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and am always hungry enough to eat when I've planned and not so hungry otherwise that I think I must eat at some other time. Are you having trouble finishing your planned meals or some such? If your hunger level has changed you might want to get it checked out, if it means you are eating well below your planned calories regularly.

Nothing worse than a loss of appetite, even if many would say they are envious. I mainly put on the pounds in the same way you did, with my normal eating being quite healthy, but my eating from boredom and stress resulting in the excesses and the poor food choices.

For quite a bit at the start of my weight loss efforts this time around, especially near the start, I found myself not hungry and many times eating low enough and often 3/ 400 calories under my already reasonable intake targets.

Eating too little can be just as problematic as eating too much, often causing problems for your weight loss efforts down the line, so I would advise trying to eat a set amount at meal times, if only for the benefits of consistency and also ensuring you're not eating too little.

Nothing keeps me full for more than about two and a half hours, when I eat in the morning. I think a lot has to do with elevated cortisol levels in the morning, and many have reported good results from avoiding eating until later in the day, with a reduced eating window, but the same volume of food.

For what its worth, most of what you've mentioned above re: metabolism and small meals has been disproved, from what I've read, so no need to stick religiously to your current regime if its not working so well for you/ an alternative might work better :)

That is true, I'm going to eat now
