I am looking into protein supplements. Does anyone know what the best kind is? I have seen whey, soy and rice as well as others. Granted I know food sources are best, but I am looking into supplments for when I am not getting enough.

Whey isolate absorbs quickly also. If you are talking about milk protein isolate because it contains casein, I would go with micellar casein because it forms a gel in the stomach and is an efficient supplier of protein over an extended period of time.
  • I get my protein in foods. like nuts.

    almonds are yummy.

    Firestorm time.

I use whey protein along with protein in lean meats, eggs, and tofu.

I'm also looking for alternative protein sources since I have trouble digesting animal products.

I used Garden of Life protein powder for awhile - it's free of any added sugars, it's vegan, no isolates, etc. I still use it every once in awhile, however, I've found that I would MUCH rather make a later-night tuna pancake or eat nuts or cottage cheese (among other things) for my snacks and add beans to my lunches, etc. to get in enough protein. It's really NOT hard to get enough protein from food if you just make a conscious effort. I usually get well over 100g/day, eating between 1300 and 1700 calories.

Try Seitan - it's DELICIOUS. This is my favorite recipe - super easy to make at home. A loaf will last me all week - it's great protein.

Some brands do make a very low sodium (or no salt added) cottage cheese type - I tried the no salt added and just didn't like the texture. However, I try to keep most of what I eat pretty low in sodium, so I can usually afford the sodium in 1/2 to 1 cup of cottage cheese without causing me to go over.
