What does BUMP mean?

I see that when people do posts. Instead of saying anything that just put "BUMP."

    just bumping it higher up in the forum so its back near the top normally or so more will notice it x

    Since on the boards, posts with the most recent comments appear first, people "BUMP" a post that hasn't had any activity on it in a while, so it will be promoted to the top and more people will see it.

    How does writing bump do this? Because it sets to your own profile and you can go back to it?

    Writing anything will do it. BUMP is just the common vernacular.

    shows up on their my topics so theyy can view it later say they cant watch a video at work or something

    I thought people bump it so it appears on their topics and they can easily return to it. But also moving it back to the top of the message board makes sense too.
