I am in need of new pots and pans. Everything I have been reading talks about the harmful stuff in nonstick. Are there pots and pans that provide a health benefit and ate easy to cook in too?

I use some stainless steal pans, and also porcelain coated cast iron. :)

Not sure about health benefits either, but go to www.americastestkitchen.com. They review kitchen equipment and very often find that there are better options than the most expensive item, or there is a "low cost" alternative that is nearly as good. I love this website, lots of fun to read.

If you use cast iron pans, you get the benefit of added iron being absorbed into your food! Some people don't get enough, so this would be a health benefit. Plus they're impossible to destroy, and can serve as a handy weapon if you need to protect yourself - man are they heavy!

  • Americastestkitchen.com is a great site - great tv show too - PBS. They did a test of pots/pans awhile ago & found the Walmart brand - begins with a "T") is almost as good as the really expensive brands. You can check it out.

clad Tramontina cookware ? That it? Thanks!:flowerforyou:

I'm also looking for some new items but don't want to invest in crazy expensive (but I DO want quality) when something just as good will work nicely. Paula Dean, Rachael Ray, those we'd be paying for the names most likely... I did see an open set of Rachael Rays cookware at a store not long ago so I looked it over. It had dents and dings all over it, one side was totally bent in from the top down to the middle. :noway:

Now I know things get tossed around in the trucks when shipped and the retail folks toss thing around when stocking a bit but.......come on!  I felt I'd seen enough testing of her product with the display model that I wouldn't likely consider purchasing it if it wouldn't hold up in shipment. Yikes what if I dropped a pan or lid and it wasn't wrapped and pkg.'d in the box it came in....can't imagine what it would look like.

I might check out the one being compared to All-Clad here's a link I was reading....
