Spinning tips

Hello,

I'm thinking of joining a spin class in my local gym (I work there, free membership :D) but i'm very nervous about the entire thing, being the slowest, being new, embarrasing myself etc.

What should i expect on my first day workout wise, and can anyone give any tips or advice to someone who is completely newbie at this?

Thanks ;D

  • Hey

I am a recent spinning addict and completely know how you felt!

What I did was take a seat at the back of the class. Everyone else is facing forward and won't even notice you if you are going slower.

Also, for the first 3 goes, don't put your resistance all the way up when you're asked. Leave it where you can comfortably keep pace with everyone else but its not so high that you're having to push through your limit.

Not everyone can keep up at the trainers pace anyway - but you'll know if youre working hard or not! It takes a while to get there :)

The exercise is great, and my class alternates standing up with high resistance with sitting down low resistance, so you never really get a chance to think about working that hard. Great music too!

I don't think anyone starts by being brilliant at spinning - it's a tough workout, but great fun! (I think). Just keep your gears down where you feel comfortable, as you keep attending the classes you will really feel achievement as the class gets easier in higher gears.

Remember that these classes are designed for all abilities and their will be all kinds of ability in the session you attend too.

I had to buy a gel seat cover...my sit bones were SO sore after my first class! I had two small bruises...it made it hard to sit for about three days.
