I bought a bag of jasmine rice from Costco. On the bag it says half cup is 70 calories. I am confused whether it is referring to uncooked rice or cooked rice. Can you guys please clarify. I have same question for other brand rice bags.

I would say cooked because a half of cup of uncooked rice will probably make about a cup and a half cooked rice and its hard to think that its only 70 calories in one and a half cups of cooked rice.

Most of those bags should also give you a note about how much cooked rice an uncooked portion will produce.

I just looked in the food data base on here about generic jasmine rice. 1 cooked cup= 205 cal also there is one that says 1/4 uncooked cup or 3/4 cooked cup = 160 calories! hope that helps.

Info on the product package is ALWAYS uncooked unless specified.

Rice is generally 100 cals per half cup cooked (200 for a cup cooked)
  • Damn rice is pretty heavy on calories then, huh? Maybe I won't be eating so much of it, though i love steamed brown rice.
