is ankle swelling a problem?

hello guys,i have been eating Subway sandwiches for the past 2 days and today when I took off my socks,my ankles had sock outlines on them and I notice that they seem swollen. I know that Subway is healthy so I should not have this problem. anyway, should this be a cause for concern for myself or is this normal? thanks.

Subway is only as healthy as you make it. I haven't looked up nutritional information, but the stuff is probably loaded with sodium, so chances are you're retaining a lot of water. Either eat less subway or drink more water, and the swelling should subside.

Subway isn't healthy. It boosts itself as healthy but those subs are packed with sodium. You are retaining water.

Sodium often causes water retention. Subway has tons of sodium and as far as it being healthy, like anything it has healthier choices.

I completely agree Subway is not necessarily healthy... at all. Their bread has tons of additives and chemicals to keep it "fresh." This happens a lot with such big companies that mass produce product to customers. Subway is THE biggest fast food chain in the world! and even though they market how healthy their foods it's not necessarily true. Keep in mind none of their foods are sourced locally. That doesn't mean you can't eat there and eat healthy by any means but definitely take a look at their ingredients online. I agree that you might have eaten a lot of sodium and it's caused the swelling. Potassium counter acts sodium. If you add more orange foods, carrots, sweet potatoes, oranges, melons, etc. (and of course bananas) They are all a good source of potassium. Drinking more water will definitely help.

Of course, there could be any number of reasons. Have you been walking or running a lot more than usual lately? Could you maybe have rolled/sprained your ankle recently? Mild ankle and feet swelling isn't necessarily a cause for alarm and usually fixes itself but if you adjusted your diet and exercise and see it getting worse definitely see a doctor. Good luck!

Subway markets itself as a healthier alternative, but it's not really healthy.

Nobody here can tie your swelling to the Subway eating. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. We don't know.

I don't think Subway is particularly high in salt, depends what you have there,I guess .

I think it is reasonably healthy too.

However I don't think Subway is causing OP's problem - a normal person with a healthy heart and healthy kidneys does not get swelling of ankles after eating any Subway sandwich for 2 days.

IF it was not temporary and just caused by tight socks or some such, then I think you should see a doctor OP - swelling of ankles can be a symptom of medical disorders.

Can also be a symptom of injury of course - but would only affect the injured ankle. And I presume you would know if you have sprained your ankle and would not be asking the question in that case.
  • I know that Jared Fogle lost about 200 eating Subway. yesterday I ate a footlong chicken teriyaki sub and today I ate a footlong pastrami sub. the bread was Italian herbs and cheese and I did not put any lettuce, green peppers, onions or jalepenos.

I cannot determine if this post is serious or not.

swelling in feet or ankles not caused by known injury and lasting more than a day or two should be checked by your doctor.

There's a lot of sodium in those choices. There's about 1500mg of sodium in a Chicken Teriyaki footlong and 1470mg in only a 6in long pastrami sandwich so you could very well be retaining water. Those aren't the most healthy of choices.

A healthy person will not have noticeable swelling of ankles after eating a footling Subway for 2 days. Irrelevant which bread it was or whether you had lettuce or not.

Yes, they may notice slight weight increase( ie water retention) if it is more salt than their usual diet but not enough to have swollen ankles like this.

If the problem has not resolved by now OP you need to see a doctor.
