A Guide To Formatting Your Posts

Thought I'd try and get this documented in one place. Sorry if this is the wrong place. :blushing:

A GUIDE TO FORMATTING YOUR POST

In all examples, replace the curly brackets ie: { } with square brackets [ ]
___________________________________________________

To create italics use{i}This sentence should be italic.{/i}
Results in: This sentence should be italic.
___________________________________________________

To create bold text: {b}This text should be bold. {/b}
Results in This text should be bold.
___________________________________________________

To create underlined text: {u}This text should be underlined. {/u}
Results in This text should be underlined.

NOTE: To create a divider of sorts, like I've used in this post, just underline an underscore like this:
{u}__________________________________________________{/u}

___________________________________________________

To create quoted text: {quote} This is quoted text. {/quote}
Results in
This is quoted text.
___________________________________________________

To use a monospace font use: {code} This is a monospaced font. {/code}
Results in:
This is a monospaced font.
The text will always always be indented, and set apart from the rest of the text.
___________________________________________________

NESTED TAGS

Bold Underline: {b}{u}This is bold underlined.{/u}{/b}
Results in: This is bold underlined.

Italic Underlined: {u}{i}This is underlind italics.{/i}{/u}
Results in: This is bold underlined.

Italic text doesn't play well with the bold tag. Go figure.

To post gifs and other images: {img}http://i.imgur.com/6mExGZX.gif{/img]

Results in:
6mExGZX.gif

The text inside the tag must point to an image hosted somewhere on the internet (not your local computer), and that somewhere must allow image linking. There are many free sites dedicated to just that, many don't even require an account.

    Gotta remember that code method for monospaced type.
    I'll have to see if MFP still fouls up the alignment anyway.

    Great hints, thanks.

    What about strike thru text? I could never make it work but have seen it used on here.

    Dunno. I know it's available in the blog area, but haven't been able to figure it out on here. I now that in a default phpBB installation, it is only available as a custom tag, and has to be specifically defined by the administrator. I'll try a few more, but I wish an admin would just post what tags are supported.

    [strike] It's not simply strike, is it? [/strike]
    [strikethrough]Maybe strikethrough[/strikethrough]
    Couldn't be a plan old s?
    [del]How about del?[/del]

    Remember, change curly brackets in the example to square brackets. and all tags should be lower case.

    i = italic
    b = bold
    u = underline
    code = monospaced font

    {b}{u}This is bold underlined.{/u}{/b}

    You missed the part about changing the { and } to open and closed square brackets or braces [ ]
    (OP had to sub something, otherwise MFP would have treated it as coding and it wouldn't have shown up in the post.)
