I'm very new here and in my introductory post I mentioned one of my motivations for using MFP was to help me do a better job of keeping track of my food intake; specifically carbohydrates. I suppose I fall under the category of Prediabetes and obviously I never want to be diabetic. It's amazed me to find that despite exercising regularly and maintaining a normal weight that my blood sugar was still high. Needless to say I'm working on changing (yet again!) my dietary habits. I thought the article I've linked to had some good information.

Woman, 56 YOA, obese, learns she is diabetic 8 years ago, lost 50 pounds, works out and tracks calories. And?!? She didn't know if you were obese, over age 45 in the US you ought to be checked for a diabetic condition? Where is the news in this?
And OP, instead of 'supposing' just go to your GP and get tested. Done.0 -
The single most important thing you can do is read The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson.

Welcome!
I too am prediabetic. Actually, at the beginning of this year was the second time I was diagnosed as such, but this most recent time the numbers were close enough to diabetic that I was prescribed medication (Metformin).
Both times I altered my diet, and each time I got the results I was looking for. I must say that the Metformin made such a huge difference this time though, that stuff truly is a wonder drug in my opinion.
MY father has Type II diabetes that he developed about 10 years ago. At first he got back in shape, was eating right, all of that. He eventually let that slip and now he is at the point where he is due to start losing toes, can no longer walk/run for exercise, all that. He is accepting a fate that he will not live to see 70, heck maybe even 65.
The first time I started working on myself and heard the term "prediabetic" about myself, I lost over 50 pounds and felt GREAT! I wasn't really exercising though, but felt I did not need to. Once I went off my diet (it was a strict diet) I would up gaining all that weight back within 3 years and started being in bad shape all over again...up until the beginning of this year when that word "prediabetic" came up again from my doctor.
I don't want to wind up in the rut like my father finds himself in. I'm experiencing symptoms of this a good 10 years ahead of when he did, and frankly, since he gave up after his first go around at tackling his diabetes, and I did as well, it serves as a wake up call for me.
Not only do I want to be there for my kids, I want to see them grow up. That's a big part of my motivation..if not really the entire essence of it. That and not wanting to suffer through a slow, painful death from diabetes if I do not have to.
Since you said that you exercise AND count carbs but are still getting high blood sugar readings, I do hope you have been given a medication to help regulate things. Your doctor knows best, of course.0 -

No, the single most important thing you can do is go see your doctor. A fasting glucose is a one point in time test, it needs to be repeated to establish a pattern, and lots of things can skew results, such as illness, medication, and stress level. You should really be talking to your doctor to find out what steps you need to take to improve your health before making drastic or unnecessary changes to your diet.0 -

Go see doctor: they will do fasting blood glucose, and a marker called HbA1c, which is an indicator of blood glucose over a recent longer period of time to determine if you are diabetic/prediabetic. If you are approaching diabetes, next step is lifestyle modification (and current medical consensus on what is effective isn't confidence inspiring), so most invariably progress to oral medications (Metformin), and eventually insulin dependence. The whole thing isn't a fun progression and I don't wish it on anybody.
Learn about primal eating: The whole progression can be nipped in the bud. Even reversed.
One of these choices involves having very little to lose....0
