Merry Christmas!
yes, this is my second go round on a 50 pound weight loss journey. I am trying to think lifelong change rather than diet, because I absolutely do not want to take this journey every again after this time...0 -
Yeah.....I'm right there with you! =\0

It's the 6th time I have to do it since I have given birth to 6 babies0

Hi and good luck with your goal. You have come to the right place. My challenge will be to maintain now - wintertime will be hard because it is hard to muster the energy to put in the aerobic exercise time. In the spring, summer, and fall it did not seem like a problem. I will try to focus on yoga and strength rather than aerobics until the weather warms up a bit. It has been really cold so far, 20s and 30s at most.
My motivation was my wonderful GP telling me to LOSE WEIGHT to avoid diabetes. My mom is diabetic and I don't want to go there. I have my annual physical in August so I am determined to be in tip-top shape for the 2nd year in a row when I next see him.0 -
I am in a similar boat. I lost 100lbs in 2009 and then mostly just maintained for 2010 (gained back 15ish lbs), but I still have 50+lbs to go to reach my goal weight.0
-
Yup. I lost a ton of weight right before I met my wife. Then I put it back on when she got pregnant. I held onto it for 4 years and finally decided it was time to get into shape again. I didn't think I'd get down to that former in-shape weight again (164 lbs.). Ha! I'm now down and hovering around 158-162.0

yup, your totally not alone. I've gained, lost, held, yo-yo'd. It's like being on a miserable rollercoaster. The thing for me is I can lose and gain all I want, but my bad eating habits were still there. Its like touching a hot pan on the stove. I didn't retrain myself, so I kept getting burned in the long run.
So, with the help of MFP I am more aware of what I am shoveling into my mouth. By making myself accountable I am more aware of what normal portions are. Now I measure everything.....its so stupid how much I was eating before thinking it was "all good".
LOL, so I guess the whole point of my ramble is change the habits, and lose it for good0 -
I lost 80 pounds before....ran a couple of 5Ks....was starting to train for a marathon....had my long run up to 8 miles....fell and twisted my ankle on gravel at school(love it when we out grow the school and have to put in trailers)......it took me over a year but I managed to gain all of that back plus.....and it has taken me a couple more years to get my butt back in gear.....0
-
I lost 70 pounds from 2007 to 2009. Gained 40 pounds in the past year. I want to loose that 40 pounds and NOT gain it back again. I really want 2011 to be the year I reach my goal and stay there.0
-
Sure can. I lost twenty within two years. At the beginning of March this year until now, I've gained it all back. Working on getting it off again.0
-
In the same boat. You would think I'd learn but no. I must be a glutten for punishment. Im starting with a smaller goal this time. Need to lose the 20 lbs I gained back since last year...Then I will go from there. It would be so much easier if I didnt like food. Need a friend Im here.0
-
I lose about 25 pounds 4-5 years ago...had about 40 to go... and then unrelenting stress for a few years + not watching eating habits + some medication issues led to gaining back all I had lost plus another 45 pounds. My goal right now is just to get back to my starting weight then... and then my ending weight from before... and then the rest of the way! We can do it! I love the support here... losing a lot of support is what started me regaining the weight before so I am hoping this time it comes off and stays off!0

I've been on the yo-yo diet train for 15 years. I always told myself tomorrow will be different. Well those tomorrows, passed and eventually ended up many years later. I went to my doctor in October for a yearly physical, and I received that slap across the face that I needed to get me going. My doctor told me that if I did not do something about my weight and lack of exercise, with my current test results from my blood work. I wouldn't be around in 5 years. He basically stated that I was a heart attack waiting to happen. And being 41 with a 5 year old, that scared me. Since October (I've been a memeber on her since August but really didn't get going until October) I've lost almost 30 pounds. Each day gets easier and easier for making the right decisions. Grant it, there are a few days that I will allow myself to indulge in a few sinful pleasures, but I always tell myself: "The first taste is the best and after that I can walk away." I was addicted to the Mc Donalds Mocha Frappes, now I order a small, have a few sips, stick it in the freezer and every few days I get a spoon and have a few tastes. I also keep telling myself that the weight did not come on overnight so it will not go off overnight. Also 1 pound = 3500 calories......... Good luck to everyone and I'm always looking for buddies.0

Thank you so much for your replies, it means a lot. We are not failures. We are just adjusting our attitudes. May our attitude be we cannot fail if we do not give up. May you never give up and may the New Year take on new possibilites for you all!

I also reached my goal a couple of times in the past 20 years. Last time was in 2006 for my daughters HS graduation but have been putting weight on since. I gained almost 20lbs since her college graduation last May
I'm tied to hear people say I don't look overweight. that I carry my weight well and yada yada. I just don't want to carry the extra weight anymore. Now I'm determined to lose 50lbs also so if you need another "dietpal" count on me too :bigsmile:0 -

oh yeah, I can definitely relate to that. Especially because I am a tall woman (6 feet), people love to give me the, "you aren't that big, you're tall. you carry it well". I'm not looking to be supermodel thin but I do want to be healthy0 -
Yes I can relate. I have been very successful at loosing weight before, and then oops I would gain it back. Then you feel bad about yourself more because you feel like a failure. I have a wonderful doctor and he recently told me not tie my self-esteem with my weight gain because it was just a number and I am a really good preson. Wow I thought he really has it together. He says that is a problem with so many women trying to loose to weight. I felt so encouraged he really wants to help me and he sees what women feel like the minute we feel like when we start putting the pounds on. I am blessed to have a wonderful husband and he has never made me feel less than a women. i have 80lbs. to loose and I tried to focus on why we really have christmas, but my mind would wonder negative things sometimes throughout the holiday. There are so many things to being a women, not just what size we are. I am determined to keep those things alive in myself and do my best to encourage other women along the way. I hope you have a blessed New Year! Melissa0

Hey all, I'm new to this website but not new to losing weight. Like so many of you this isn't my first rodeo. In 1999 I lost 80lbs. Gained it all back. In 2006 I lost 115lbs. I've gained 25 of that back. I had surgery last Monday to fix an ankle that's kept me inactive for about a year. Had my first PT session today and it went great. I'm really excited to make a commitment to the new year and a new me. I wish you all the best0

Welcome to MFP! I feel you!! I feel like I have been dieting most of my life!! It's been a roller coaster ride! I have about 50 pounds to lose still. Remember to just keep going and even if you slip up today, tomorrow is a new start! Good luck on your journey!
Also, feel free to friend me. :flowerforyou:0 -
sounds like a plan. i actually have a cold so my appetite is down...wish it were always so. my biggest challenge is not to eat in front of the tv...so, i have a box and in it i put in skin creams, and nail polish and i plan to do my nails instead!0

You are all winners. New Year---New Me. Thanks for all the replies. I just don't know how to get topic replies yet, but I'd like to encourage you all that this is the year when you can just do it! As for the questions and the challenges presented--I'd better spend more time looking around here! If I am busy on the keyboard my hands cannot put food in my mouth.
If it is a few pounds or many to lose, think positive!0 -
