Period questions.

I've lost just over 15 pounds and work out 5-7 days a week. I've noticed a couple of things that I want to know if they are normal.

First is it normal to gain weight at the start of your period? How much is "normal"? I was up 7 pounds last week on day one of my period, this week it's actually a total of 8 pounds down from last week. Is there any way to avoid this in the future? (I already have a very low sodium diet)

Next question does losing weight or increasing exercise mess with your cycle? My last period started a full 7 days before it normally would, and I noticed the last two months that it has been lighter and I've noticed improvement in my PMS symptoms. Pregnancy is NOT a possibility, though I am getting older (37) if that may have something to do with it.

I assume it's different for everyone. I'm usually up 2-3 pounds on mine, and a few days after. Then I drop those, and usually 2-3 more a week and a half later.

Just make sure you're hitting your calorie goals, and the weight will come off. As I lose weight, mine are actually getting longer, though they are always on the short side for in between.

You're going to get the water weight every month, usually 3-7 pounds. The more you exercise, the less severe your symptoms will be.

Not this is not normal! If your diary is correct and you are in fact eating only 400-900 cals in a normal day. Your period came early because your body is stressed and your reproductive system is in meltdown. The shorter length of duration and heaviness of the flow is also a symptom of this. EAT ENOUGH TO LIVE!!!

I looked at the last 4 days of your diary, this is not healthy. Seriously though- 1200 cals is the MINIMUM a woman should be eating! If you eat more than you log, then I apologize.

EDITED to say. I gain about 5lbs every cycle 3 days before it starts. I get bloated like crazy and retain water, it doesnt concern me because it happens like clockwork each month. Sodium intake is not a factor that influence the degree to which I gain.

The last few days are NOT normal for me. (though todays diary it's 3pm here so it doesn't have lunch or dinner logged yet). My normal calorie intake is 1,698 (and while I do workout I don't eat back the calories). The past 4 days are a result of a major issue that is going on in my life causing massive amounts of stress (which makes eating difficult) and a lack of time to eat. This situation won't be long term and things should be back to normal by the end of the weekend.

    Hi,

Yes, it sounds pretty normal. I gain around 4-6 lbs every time of the month and it returns to normal afterwards. As for your period coming early, mine did as well, as soon as I began excersizing more etc. Now that I've been doing this regularily and my body has adjusted, it comes on time.

I always gain five pounds, which is such a bummer. I try to stay off salt, but still. I'm sorry to hear about the stress, at least you don't overeat when stressed. Good luck. Oh and I have noticed a drop in PMS symptoms as well. :flowerforyou:
