Weights when you can't squat! Please give me some advice...

Hi all,

I am wanting to get into lifting weights, but I have an old injury in one knee that gives me a lot of issues. I am seeing a physio for this, and she has ruled out running (boo, as I had just fallen in love with it!) and also exercises like squats and lunges.

I am a total newbie when it comes to weights and I was wondering if you more experienced people could help me out - what are some good weights exercises that don't put pressure on the knee like squats? I am thinking of buying dumbells if that helps.

Thanks in advance!

I'd ask your physio - let them know you are happy to listen and not do the squats etc, but ask if they could give you ideas about what you can do instead.

What she said! If you have issues then check with the physio.

I got my first proper weights routine from my physio when coming back from a knee and hip injury- I couldn't run or squat but I did what I was told and now I can go back running, take on light weighted squats and plenty more besides. There will be lots of alternatives depending on if you have gym access or bodyweight stuff.
