20 Years Old and Nearly 20 Stone

It would seem like every year of my life since i was around 10, I have gained a stone so my weight has always matched my age.
When i was around 17 i lost 4 stone using this amazing tool. Since then some personal things have happened and i have lost track. It took no time at all to gain back the weight and some! In the last 2 years or so i have struggled with depression, which really doesn't seem like me, I'm usually a very happy person who tries to find the best in situations and in people.
I struggle with sweet foods like chocolate. Im a bit of a food-snob and i very rarely eat fast food. I've been to countless Doctors and they tell me what i already know; that only i can do this for myself. Now i am just very scared, demotivated and terrified of developing some serious health problems.
I am worried that the root to all my problems (which seems to me is being obese) is going to stop me from living and enjoying life.
IN NEED OF INSPIRATION AND MOTIVATION...
BTW my favourite activity is walking and listening to audiobooks/music.

You can do this! You said you lost a bunch of weight before using MFP, so you can do it again! You have to have faith in yourself. I also LOVE chocolate, but I found (for me) that getting it in little ways like drinking chocolate milk (or a protein shake) or eating a chocolate chip protein bar satisfies my cravings. I love to eat, but MFP keeps me on track. Don't let the weight keep you from having fun. And often having fun will keep you active. You can do this!! YOU CAN DO THIS!0

You came to the right place, there are some really inspirational people here to keep you motivated. I have lost around 50lbs and would have given up if it wasn't for seeing other people's success, if they can do it so can you just focus on eating healthy and balanced and the weight will fall off. Any ways if you need any encouragement feel free to pm me.0

Well I was overweight for basically all of my teen life and when I started this journey I was 308lbs which is 22 stone for you but I've been on this sight roughly 6-7 months give or take and I'm now 220lbs (15.7 stone) with the goal of getting to 194lbs (13.8 stone) I know its a rough thing to do but once you start and make logging your food second nature then the weight just starts to fall off the only factor is time just just stick with it and bite the bullet the longer you can stick with the more weight will come off. Good luck to you if I can do it I'm sure you can to.0

Thanks guys thats really encouraging.
It is soo true that if you just get into it and it becomes second nature then it becomes easier.
I kick myself because i cant think how i did it last time. I guess its because gaining the weight made me feel like a failure.
Got to start a fresh and stop beating myself up.
Thanks Again, Pip0 -
Hi ya walking and listening to audio books is a gret pastime, Steven Fry lost loads that way, And as they say slow and steady wins the race. I'm doing this as I had lost control of my diet and myself. I would look in the mirror and hate what I see, but Not I am getting over that and hitting it head on, i'm lucky in the sense I don not lack motivation but have loads to give and encouragement to any who would like some. I have to admit it is hard dragging myself out of bed early in the morning to go to the gym, but once completed I feel greatr and ready to take on the world. This is just the start of your journey and you will achive your goals, with the correct mind set and support. Good luck and go get em!!!0

You have to deprive yourself of the things you want. That is a diet. Its not a barrell of fun but it gets results. If yo uenjoy being overweight then continue to enjoy chocolate. Its a cruel to be kind repsonse I am afraid0

I totally agree. You have to be real with yourself.
I think that is a really good way at looking at it.
I really dont enjoy being overweight and to an extent i dont enjoy chocolate.
I feel like my mind makes sweet food seem better than it really is. Once ive eaten it the comfort feeling has gone and it wasnt worth it.0 -
excellent - be hard on yourself - you will fell really pleased at the end of a day knowing you didnt give in to that choc, or treat. and you wont get that 'oh no' feeling in the morning when you wake up. When you weigh yourself - do it every 2 days, when the weight comes off it helps the will power even more i find. the pleasure of loosing weight far outweights the 2 minute pleasure of a choccie bar. good luck xxxxx0

Once you stop eating your trouble foods on a regular basis (for me, that was tortilla chips and nacho cheese--yum!), the cravings for them will go away. I don't keep tortilla chips and nacho cheese in my apartment, and I haven't really felt sad that I'm not buying them. Instead, I find myself craving healthier foods now--for instance, I am already really looking forward to my hummus and veggie wrap at lunch today.
It doesn't happen overnight, but it will happen.
Feel free to add me, by the way! I turn 20 in a few weeks, so I would love to have some more MFP friends closer to my age!0 -
Ahh i cant wait for the day when i don't feel that i have to buy or eat something that i really don't need.
I know that sounds stupid but sometimes i really do feel like i have to buy the wrong things. My doctor told me that it is a sugar addiction which can be as addictive as cocaine... SCARY... Makes me wonder what kind of additives are put in food.
For now im just going to remove those foods from my life (it'll be hard but ive done it before) and keep myself busy to stop thinking about food.
Whenever im actually doing something that i find stimulating i tend to never think about eating. I guess i get bored easily.0
