Starting the gym

Okay so I'm joining the gym on Monday and I would like to just tone up. Can any one give me some tips and advice on what will help me tone? what machines to use and what weights ect.

    i recommend that you read the book "new rules of lifting for women." all the knowledge you seek is there, along with training plans.

    I assume by using "tone" you mean to have a lower body fat percentage in order for your lean muscle to be visible. To do this, eat at a deficit while doing resistance training or strength training of some sort.

    There are some good beginner programs out there: Starting Strength, Stronglifts 5x5, Strong Curves. I personally started with a training plan from bodybuilding.com. The link is below:

    Whatever you do, make sure you go in with a plan. There's nothing worse than aimlessly wandering around like a lost sheep, not really knowing what to try. I've done that before. Good luck!
