Running Improvement with Leg Training?

So! I'm doing C25k and started to get some annoying runner's knee. I did research and asked around on MFP and found I should definitely take a break from running until my knees don't hurt, and that its safe to do some light weight training for my legs. Keeps me from falling off the exercise wagon
So, my question is; did your running improve from doing leg weight training? Noticeably, I mean?

I weight lift on the days I don't run. Strength training will help with running. That said, "runner's knee" can have many causes. Make sure you have proper shoes. You may also need to make sure your running form is proper.0

I predominantly do bodyweight resistance training, I find that traditional weights bore me to tears so bodyweight work can be integrated into my plan without too much tedium.
The resistance training helps to mitigate injury risk, by improving the function around the joints, it'll also help with running related power output, so helps improve my pace and acceleration.0
