Martinis

So how do you like your martinis?

After over two decades of drinking them, I've finally come to the conclusion that mine are best shaken and I prefer a lime twist with vodka and two olives with gin. I disagree with the traditional notion that stirred is better because one doesn't want ice forming on the top. I like the ice. And, I'm sorry, dirty is a viable alternative, but chocolate only is if we're talking chocolate infused vodka with a cocoa bean and even then I'm nearly apoplectic over it. But I digress. It's not about me. What do you like?

  • Well, I've only ever had one kind of martini. Vodka, vermouth and two green olives, stirred. I love it, so I've stuck with it, and if someone is offering something different I settle with a gin and tonic or a Bloody Mary. Perhaps I should get more adventurous, ie, 3 olives instead of 2. :drinker:

I am a martini virgin because I am pretty sure an appletini doesn't count.

What is in an appletini? Of course, I could also google it.

If you like appletinis then by all means, I'd pour you one. Just let me know how you take them.

I'm doing it!!! Although I will miss the food treat at the end. Can you put olives in it?

I'm sure I have one of those long spoony things in my 1960s martini bare ware somewhere around here. Just hold on a jiffy. Yep. There we go! Coming right up!

I'm not exactly sophisticated, you could use a spatula and I'd never know.

I really, really, really wanted to like a dirty Goose martini when I ordered one a couple of years ago. Alas, I did not, and that ended my martini adventures.

TO cut calories, at home I use a splash of vodka, 1 martini olive, and maybe 2 fingers of vermouth with water and ice of course....doesn't taste the same, but it'll do:drinker:

From now on, your martinis shall be stirred most lovingly with a gold plated spatula.

If your making one I will drink it lol.
  • I had a martini once and couldn't stomach it. I nearly died trying to get through a gin and juice beverage panel once. Gin and vodka are not my things.

Husband will however, drink gin on ice with a few olives soaking in it.

I just switched from vodka to gin ones recently. I like a twist or olives, but vermouth is evil stuff, so not even a drop of it in there. Agreed on the ice. Shake it up till it's practically a slushie!

Gin, Vermouth, splash of Scotch, 2 Olives

Prefer Hendricks Gin when drinking Martinis. Shaken, of course.

Yea, love the blue cheese olives. I found out last night that my jar of them was hijacked by a kiddo though

My favorite martini (and possibly my favorite cocktail) is Mitchell's Fish Market's Grapefruit and Basil martini...

    The Grapefruit and Basil Martini
    1 and 1/2 vodka
    3/4 fresh grapefruit juice
    1/4 simple syrup
    Fresh muddled basil
Shake with ice and strain into a martini glass

Perhaps not a "true" martini so much as a cocktail served in a cone-shaped glass...but yummy nonetheless.

I like sweet drinks and the best "martini" type concoction i ever had was named in a lewd fashion and was coral pink. Can't remember the name (probably a good thing) and it had pineapple in it.

This is why i stick to margaritas.

Shaken and girlie. I like caramel appletinis. And to usher in Autumn.... I think Pumpkintinis are in order. ;)

Never tried blue cheese olives. Seems like a crime. But....I think I might stop at the store tonight and get some. If I don't like it, I can always put them in salads.

Thaks for the tip. I've made my martinis the exact same for 40 years. Time to mix it up.

I keep my vodka (grey goose) in the freezer as well as my martini glass.
Add vodka to shaker filled with ice, wave vermouth cap over the shaker (for flavor) and shake.
Pour into frozen glass. Add 2 olives and wait 2 minutes and 37 seconds before drinking.

Depends. Any of the "froo-froo" ones that I drink -- cosmos and appletini's mostly -- I have to have them not sweet. I can not stand how sickly sweet they're made and have found a few bars that can make them to my liking.

Dirty vodka martini's I like extra dirty and with a lot of olives. Shaken. Not stirred.

Honestly all martini's I've had are shaken. I heard some where that shaking them melts the ice and waters it down a bit.

A local restaurant makes their blue cheese olives and they are the BEST. Sometimes I'll ask the bartender to just give me a plate of them.:blushing:
