help - not losing weight

Hi, wondering if anyone can shed some light on why I am not losing the weight I thought I would be. I get up at 5.30 to do hip hop abs, its week 4, and I have lost 3lb. I try and keep my calorie intake to around 1200-1400 per day (with occasional blip with wine). I am 40 years old, 5ft 4.5in, and currently weigh 145lbs. I would love to get to 135 - 138. I know I don't have a huge amount to lose, but I am so frustrated with getting up an hour earlier, doing the work outs, and not getting anywhere. I rarely eat crisps / choc / biscuits / cakes / pastries, but do indulge in a baked camembert (naughty I know) but try and keep this within my calories. HELP!! I feel like giving up!

Spend a month religiously weighing, logging, tracking everything. Do not go over your calories in that time frame (or at least not by more than 50-100). Reassess and adjust as needed after a month.

You have hardly any weight to lose, and you have lost 3lb in 4 weeks. I would say this is good progress :-)
  • Perhaps you're building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat.
    Have you done measurements?
As much as I'd love to shed the pounds I'd be even more chuffed if I lost inches too.
  • it's so much easier and more fun to gain weight than it is to lose it! .75 pounds a week is not a bad thing and some weeks go better than others. For me, I know I really have to watch my carb intake. It makes no difference sometimes if I keep within my 1200 calorie goal if I eat too much bread/pasta. My body just seems to hold onto those kinds of calories. I eat spaghetti squash or even a baked potato instead of pasta and I try to limit my bread intake.once my weight comes off (or if I don't mind slowing a bit in the weight loss arena) I will have a sandwich now and then. Listen to your body and don't get too discouraged. If you aren't losing, even .75 pounds a week, you are gaining or staying the same. I will take any loss I can get

I have done measurements - and my waist has gone from 28.5 to 27, my hips from 41 to 38, so that is good. although my clothes don't feel any looser. Nothing lost on thighs and arms (my most wobbly bits). I know it sounds a lot, but I wonder if I took original measurements wrongly, as it doesn't feel it!

I don't eat a lot of bread (occasional sandwich or toast)

My sister has recommended the 5-2 diet, I am willing to try it for a while and see if that makes any difference, but then I also get confused by the TDEE and BMR levels that we are supposed to use!!!
